Water Pump Sucking Air

My water pump is sucking air and I think Iknow the problem area.

Last year I installed a winterize valve and had trouble connecting the water hose to the extended end of the water pimp intake. Like a good man, I pulled on the hose and forced fit the connection. Now e pump is sucking air :S

After filling the water tank to the overfill point, I start the pump and it still gets air.

If I apply pressure to the water intake and filter, the pump starts to operate normally and stops when the pressure is right.

I don't believe there is a crack in the plastics but I think the two piece elbow is stretched out causing e air leak. Can I Jerry rig this elbow or is it better to just get a new one? If a new one is in order, does Walmart carry them?

Thanks.

^^^^ That was it. The parts department at our local RV dealer (40 minutes away) was still open so I was able to get the elbow. Fix the problem right up.

Is this the fitting? If so you won't likely find it at Lowes. Try an RV supply or a farm store. Should be from $2-$4.

You found the source of your problem - the pump is sucking air from somewhere. When you apply pressure the air trapped in the lines somewhere is displaced and the pump operates normally. It's a water pump - not an air pump.

You could,if possible, apply air pressure to the lines and fittings and see if you can hear or feel air leaking. You can also mix up a soapy solution and spray it on the lines and fittings to detect an air leak. You probably cracked a plastic fitting when you pulled on it.

I would suggest you locate the source of the air leak and replace with a new piece without using excessive force.

Any RV supply house or Lowes etc. should have what you need. Try to replace any plastic part with a metal part if possible.
