Spring is almost here! Are you excited about your summer gig? Are going back to a favorite spot or going on to a new adventure? There are so many places to see, I'd love to hear about them all.

We will be at Ice Harbor Dam for summer 2013 - volunteering for the Corps of Engineers - June, July, August, and thru Labor Day.

How was your experience at Ice Harbor. It looks like a unique and interesting experience. Especially, in Visitors Center, interp, tours, etc.

My wife and I have just finished the month of July at Janes Island State Park in Maryland. We love that Park and had the best time, the staff are great to work with. In a few days we are headed to Prince Williams Forest NP in VA.

We have been at Steamboat Lake State Park Colorado since May 15. It has to be the prettiest place I have ever seen. Acres of wildflowers and wildlife all over--birds, moose, deer, elk, beaver. My wife sells day passes and I do maintenance and repair--20 hours a week each. We will be here until Sep. 10th. Before that, we had a month at Ft. Stanton NM. The fort has an unbelievable amount of history and it is close to Lincoln NM, site of the Lincoln County cattle wars--another bunch of history.

We have been at Mark Twain Landing, a few miles south of Monroe City, MO. I am working maintenance while my wife is working in the store. This is an older RV Park so maintenance stays pretty busy.

Obsession and addiction, what a way to go!

Just curious, but have you been to Point Lookout, MD? We found this place to be so steeped in civil war history and just a great place to volunteer. (Well, with the exception of the mosquitoes.)

While camp-hosting, there are lots and lots of opportunities to participate in the historical aspects of the park - from participating in the Fort Lincoln re-enactments, to the civil war museum, light house open houses, etc.

There are lots and lots of opportunities and they are always looking for camp-hosts. Each camping unit is required to put in 20 hours each week, which is usually done on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and not a lot of hard work.

We have only camp-hosted at Amistad NRA. We prefer visitor services, interp, etc.

MD has a number of interesting and historic locations that would be fun.

We have not been to Lookout Point. The NPS some locations we were previously considering. Now, alas, we are booked through Sept 2014.

Hope to head West next October. Calvary Forts and American Indian History is another area we are interested in pursuing for the future. There was Civil War activity out West also that we would like to visit.

Thanks for the information.

We are work camping at a KOA. It is our first time, site with pay. We have usually stuck to gate guards or hosts. This is new to us. We have met several other work camper couples , nine in all and have learned about the state, national and COE park application and bidding process. We work in Texas in the winter and this might be our last summer traveling north in the summer. We are looking at Maine or Washington State or Oregon next summer (God willing). Now for the negative, we work camped in Texas for 5 years at gate guards, the owner decided it would be cheaper if he hired outside help instead of using work campers. Our job took about 240.00 off the site rent. We did get another job in housekeeping for the 13/14 season. Has anyone ever worked at a KOA and if so could you post some of your positive and negative remarks without mentioning names or state? we are very interested in your opinion. We have been fulltime for 7 years and have work camped 6 years now. Living in a MOntana fifth wheel. Loving the open road.

I am really jealous of all ya'll. We needed a serious bump up on the old savings account so....we are gate guarding in south Texas. Money is really good. Anyway we have all ready experienced 100+ temps. Work is really easy. Haven't seen any rattlers yet. Did have a tarancula (forgive spelling) visit us the other night while we were sitting under the awning. We have seen wild hogs and deer, but no coyotes or mountain lions. Dust not bad. We have friends gging as well this summer so we give each other a day off here and there. We will be leaving next May 2014 for a summer of nothing but travel, sight seeing and fun fun fun!
Happy and safe travels to all!!!!

Hosting in Virginia in the George Washington National Forest at Bolar Mountain. I can't wait to get up there and set up shop.

This will be the 5th time for me hosting and the first time with the National Parks & the state of Virginia.

My previous spots were Alaska & NY.

I started hosting here last week. This is a very quiet place as there isn't any sort of development in the area. No light pollution at night. Very serene & peaceful. Great bunch of campers so far.

They are still looking for a pair of hosts if anyone is looking. It's in Virginia near the West Virginia border. Not too far a drive from anywhere on the east coast.
