I'm taking Andy to the vet. He has stopped eating and will only drink water, and lots of it. He's still able to get around, up and down stairs, but is clearly not comfortable. Last night he had diarrhea. At this point, I don't know what, if anything can be done. I want to spare him suffering and pain, and hope I make the right decision at the vet's office this morning. It would be really great if this was something totally unrelated to the liver and kidney issues. Thanks to all the forum members for all your support, prayers and kindness during this unfortunate occurrence with Andy.

So so sorry for the loss of your sweet Andy. You did what was best for him and there is no more suffering (for him, anyway).

I'm sorry, you did the best you could for Andy. This brings tears, we had to let our two toy poodles go last month due to age and health issues. It sure was hard but there was no quality of life. We have a new companion who we love dearly but they will remain in our hearts.

My condolences. I have a 17 year old cat with failing kidneys so I know what you went through.

Andy was humanely euthanized this morning. My vet was most compassionate and understanding. Andy could not have gotten better and is now relieved of his pain and suffering. Today is the feast day of St. Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland, home of collies and shelties. A most appropriate day for Andy to leave this world and enter the next. Thanks to all of you for your compassion.

Rita, this is one of the most difficult decisions we have to make, but you will know what to do, between the Vet and Andy letting you know. Just listen to your heart! You will be in my thoughts and please update on the status of Andy.
