Crazy Pet Question..travel with a Betta?

OK, this is a really off the wall question, but we are getting ready to fulltime and I have four Bettas that I really enjoy. I've toyed with the idea of taking one small aquarium (2.5 gal) and one my favorite Betta with me. Bettas are shipped successfully all the time, and my thought is that when we move I can put the Betta, ie: Bob, in a plastic container and put it in a hard sided cooler in the car. When we get where we are going I can fill up his tank and put him back in. He is already over a year old so will probably live another year and I do enjoy him a lot. Is this a totally crazy idea? My hubby thinks so but won't stop me from doing it if I can figure out a good place to set up the aquarium.
We will be work kamping as campground hosts so we will not be moving more often than once a month, and we already have committed to several months at the same campground. We then plan to winter in AZ and stay in the same park for 3-4 months.

The problem you're going to have is reasonable temprature control. The smaller the container, the faster and more dramatic the swing.

BTW- the Shipping Fish link above doesnt work. But the big deal with fish is that they not go into temperature shock. That's the biggest killer of fish. They want a stable temp. Thats where they're from..

I think you can bring him along just fine. but I would be sure to fill the container only half way with water and open it every day to refresh the air. If the trip is going to be several days bring some safe water to change at least half with the same temperature water.The cooler is to keep his temperature in a safe Zone? Good idea.

In my experience, they can survive in a small space with minumum oxygen as related to other popular species.

Having said that, I think that the largest container possible combined with either aeration or at least frequent water changes will allow him to survive.
