Doberman

Anyone travel or have a Doberman? Looking for some general info. Thinking of getting another dog and it's on top of my list.

The inability to control their likker is a breed trait. This is the big joke of having a pit... everyone thinks they'll "rip your leg off" and they're more apt to knock someone flat and lick them to death.

🙂 As long as it is a joke. Designer dogs in my opinion are muts that naive people pay ridiculous prices for.

I couldn't have siad it better. We looked for 2 years before getting our male. We have them both tested annually. As far as health issues all of mine have lived 10-14 years only 1 had hip issues. Not too bad for a bog breed. I do wish they lived as long as we do.

We take our dogs everytime we go camping and havn't had an issue yet. But we are always watching out for situations that may arise. Once while at Glacier Park several years ogo my female was about 6 months old, we were walking her when she was bitten on her leggs by 2 Los Apsos (sp)that were running loose, the owner thought it was cute that her little dogs had bite a doberman. She hasn't liked little dogs since. Seems like it always comes back to the owners 🙂

Dobies get a bad rap. As far as staying in campgrounds you will have problems. I once acquired a half dobie thinking he would be a good watch dog. Naa; all he wanted was to give love and be loved. They are extremely smart and react well to training.

I have had Dobermans for over 40 years and have 2 now (see profile). Some people are concerned when we walk Bella and Rex in the campgrounds even though they are very friendly we respect their space and walk around or adjust our walk. We have had more problems with the OWNERS of little dogs who think its cute when thier little dogs bark at big dogs. As a firefighter I am gone for 48 hours or longer at a time, it is comforting to now my wife and property are safe when I am not there. I wouldn't have any other breed myself.

Raised and showed Dobermans for years. Great dogs but "the bear II" is correct. Many place will not let you in with them. I have a 100Lb Pit Bull lap dog that has to stay home most of the time since most places know he's "a time bomb waiting to explode" :).
