Never Enough Time

Because you will not be forever,
Hope against time I may,
I paint your picture in my memory,
Eyes blue with age, muzzle gone grey.
Because you walked with me in springtime,
Puppy-clumsy, running free.
As you grew older we grew together.
You became part of me.
Because you shared with me my sorrows,
Not understanding, simply there.
Often spurring me to laughter,
My friend, you know how much I care.
Because the years have slowed your fleetness,
Though your spirit is still strong.
I promise I will take more time now,
So that you can go along.
Because you do not fear the future,
Living on in the now,
I draw strength from your example,
Yet time keeps slipping by somehow.
Because the day will soon be coming
When I will no longer see,
You rise to greet me, but in my memory,
You will always walk with me.

As a kid the impact was hard but at our age I believe it is harder.
Thanks for the prose.

True dog lovers no that day will come when are friends must leave due to their shorter lifespans. Nevertheless we enjoy the dogs company while they are here.
While it maybe a crude way to look at it I understand my dog is somewhat disposable. I love them while they are here, I replace them when they are gone.
While I treat my dogs as family I factor their shorter lifespan into out relationship going in, It makes it easier to accept their passing going out.
While I always anticipate I am going to out live the dogs. One day the tide will turn and the dog will be the sole survivor....That thought really concerns me more than the dog passing along.

What would happen to my man's best friend without me!?

Beautiful....made me cry too. My furkids are 6 and 6 1/2 yrs. old right now. My Rotty has a graying muzzle--I worry so much about that as Rotties are prone to the Big "C". When they get it, it's usually bone cancer and there is usually only a few weeks left. No matter how long you have them, though, there IS "never enough time".

Thank you very little, for making me cry so early in the morning.
My beagle, Josie is 9 years old, and still acts like a pup. Although her nose is grayling up, she still loves to romp around and dig a nice hole. She really likes camping and driving around in the MH.
God bless you and America.
