I'd sooner believe something is dirty or the attachment fasteners are loose. Take a look at
Chris Bryant's Cleaning Process and you'll see there's a drip pan on the upper unit (roof side) that could have its exit holes plugged. Also, if your coils are dirty, the condensate might not drip where it'll get caught in the pan.
There's a foam gasket between the rooftop part of the A/C and the roof surface itself. It CAN fail over time, but it also compresses which means loose. You can see the bottom end of the four fasteners that keep it together. From the inside with the vent cover removed. Make sure they're SNUG. Don't go cranking them down hard or you can crush your roof structure.
