Another 'Am I dumb or is this broken?' question

I seem to have a lot of these.

I got an auto electric place to put in some stuff for me. Some of it involves Anderson connectors. I hooked one up today (inverter to house battery) and it was a little stiff plugging in but then I could not get the dang thing unplugged! Had to make a friend do it.

It's been a while, but they should just pull apart, right? There's no thingy to press on or anything?

Is it ok if I just file down the contacts a bit so I can unplug the dang thing on my own?

DUMB? YOU? MY FOOT!

If we're talking can't walk and chew gum, here are some snickeroos...

Q: Why do blondes take the pill? A: So they know what day of the week it is.

A redhead tells her blonde stepsister, "I slept with a Brazilian...." The blonde replies, "Oh my God! You ****! How many is a brazilian?"

Q: Why did God give blondes 2 more brain cells than horses? A: So they don't **** in the parade.

Q: What's the mating call of the blonde? A: "I'm sooooo drunk!"

Q: What do you call 10 blondes standing ear to ear? A: A wind tunnel.

Q: Why did the blonde stare at frozen orange juice can for 2 hours? A: Because it said 'concentrate'.

Q: Why do blondes wear ponytails? A: To hide the valve stem!

Q: What goes: vroooom-schreech, vrooom-schreech, vroooom-schreech? A: A blonde at a flashing red light

Q: What do you call an eternity? A: Four Blondes in four cars at a four way stop.

Naio, I hope this put a smile on your face (and everyone else too) "Dumb" people do not ask questions.

I get that dielectric is better, but is it ok to go ahead and use lithium since I have it and am not near a store? These are for charging my shave ice nachine off the alternater - 85aH gel cells.

Mex, thanks very much for the suggestions for better connectors for future jobs.

Amen to Dielectric. Right tool for the job!

For amperes up to 16, I MUCH prefer Weather Pack connectors to Anderson. Zero question. A much better designed and easier to use connector. Anderson for +16 amps, but then if space permits a dual-pole Pollak or Cole Hersee split pin is the hot setup. With crippled hands I have nothing but curse words for Anderson Power Pole Connectors. But this is a personal issue.

Hi,

I'd use deoxit instead of grease. Handles are a great idea.

Thanks, guys! Yes, I have lithium grease (and silicone spray).

Hmmm.. maybe I should pack those things. I used to carry a film container of lithium grease when bike touring.

I thought about asking my friend to plug and unplug them a few times, but I saw the look on her face when she saw me thinking it. She had to go through some pretty complex contortions to get them apart once.

Grease on the metal bits. Wax on the plastic. Silicone spray on everything in a pinch.

You're not dumb, Naio.

Some connectors are just VERY tight and hard to get apart -especially for those of us with limited dexterity.

They may loosen up if you plug and unplug them a few times.
G-half can always find a way to do things upside-down, inside-out or backward.

I would probably just apply some white lithium grease very sparingly with a cotton swap.

Here is a pull-handle kit if that would help: (near bottom of page)

Lubricate the connectors, don't cut the metal contacts.
