I have blown 3 fuses in my converter, useually when I plug in at a new CG. What is the best way to tell if it is running without checking the fuse to see if it is blown? Woke up the other night and the lights were very dim. Checked the fuse and it was blown, put a new one in and blew it, put another one in and so far several days later still working as I checked the fuse with a light meter/tester.
It is very quite so hard to tell if it is running

What fuse is blowing??
Are you taking about the 'reverse polarity' fuse(s)?

You have a bad battery or cables are reversed.

And if lights are dimming after the fuse blows your converter is also bad.

Converter output should be 13.6V DC (provided you have 110V AC input)

Need to check battery voltage with converter off (or cables disconnected)

Get out a volt meter and use it.

Here is a troubleshooting guide (for Parallax Converters BUT is good for converter troubleshooting)......LINK

Thanks to a recommendation from a fellow member here I purchased a low voltage alarm and it has worked GREAT! Unfortunately when I checked again last week the company has been "out of stock" for the last 6 months. The alarm is audible and adjustable. Exactly what I needed. Exactly what I want more of, and exactly what I cannot get. RATZ!

When the converter is on and working, voltage measured from positive to negative on a 12V battery (on two batteries if 6V) should be 13.6V or more. If you measure less, its not working.

Hi,

Use a volt meter to check how much voltage rise there is when you plug in the converter. I have one that fits a cigarette lighter that I keep plugged in most of the time. $15 bucks from Walmart.
