Couldn't be happier with NORCOLD service

As comes to all of us at one time or another, the refrigerator within our 38 foot 2011 Keystone Montana went belly-up. Living 40 miles from Chicago (Joliet) and next to two Interstates (I-80 & I-55) I sought help/assistance/repair from every mobile RV tech phone number that I could reach - but sadly - not one tech repaired NORCOLD refrigerators, so I requested help from the NORCOLD builder which turned out to be the Thetford corporation.

Although, the Thetford/NORCOLD people were kind and compassionate in listening to my story of woe as I explained that my wife and I live in our RV 24/7 with no way to move our RV to a dealer and worse if we could get it to a dealer, we had no place to live while the refrigerator was being repaired. After all, it could take weeks to get the parts and repair our unit, then getting the repaired unit back to our RV site would break us more than we already were.

The people at Thetford/NORCOLD asked us to allow them to make a few calls and we of course agreed. We were devastated when Thetford/NORCOLD called back and advised us that they could not find a mobile tech in our area either. Thetford/NORCOLD told us that the closest mobile tech was in Peoria IL (more than 200 miles away from us )with D&H RV and Trailer Repair, Inc.

"Peoria ! " I said "I don't think that's gonna help us"
"Don't worry" I was told "we'll work this out. We stand by our products"

(This is the short version)

I received a phone call from Thetford/NORCOLD who advised me that I would be
receiving a telephone call from Scott at D & H RV to work out the details and dates when he could come up from Peoria IL to repair my refrigerator.

Scott called - arrived today - fixed my refrigerator perfectly and the costs were all born by Thetford/NORCOLD.

Absolutely wonderful ! We couldn't be happier.

" I was at a Thousand Trails campground when somneone came in looking for a mobile RV tech to fix their Norcold..... Seems the red light on the little black box was lit.

I grabbed my big magnet and applied it to said box above the light... Job done."

That was all attempted and more ... all failed ... my neighbors are all very kind at Leisure Lake RV ... many tried to help ... we tried the magnet ... and long discussions were held ... it would have been nice if the magnet would have done the job but as it turned out, there was another problem ... a long cable attached to a screw tightening ring that was covered under insulation ... I don't know what it's called but it was something I didn't see my neighbors try ... it would have been nice if the magnet trick worked ... but in the absence of easy, the people at Norcold did what American's have done for American's since - - forever. I am blessed by meeting nice people. Going by the book didn't fix my refrigerator - neither did quick tricks - nice people helping us fixed my refrigerator, some from Michigan and another from Peoria and I'm very thankful they did.

That's refreshing to hear!
It's a good thing Dometic didn't buy them. It would be a totally different story.

2011 and still under warranty?
Norcold gas absorption fridge is 1 year warranty for post 2009 units (pre 2009 was 3 yr limited)

Or did this have to do with the 'Recall Box' that HAD to be replaced by an 'authorized Norcold repair' ???
Is it time for your medication or mine?

If they covered a 2011 unit, KUDOS to them.
Apparently they could have easily walked away from a 6 or 7 year old product and let the OP deal with the problem. Even if the terms of the recall had obligated them, it appears the OP had no idea and never argued that. The company made good and that does deserve recognition.
