Gen-turi on portable inverter generator?

All,

Just getting into the portable generator thing, and getting educated. I see the Camco Gen-turi which appears to be geared primarily to the RV's with built-in generators.

I just bought a Champion Inverter 75537i for the occasional off-grid camping/tailgating, etc. My generator wont be attached to, or in any compartment in/on my RV when in use.

Has anyone come up with some kind of gen-turi for portable generator use? Is it even needed? If I just keep my generator a distance away from my RV, is that enough? If you do, how do you attach to a portable generator?

I just want to learn the safe practices.

The Venturi Principal does not require a swirling of the air.



I made my own out of 10' length of 2x4" alum gutter downspout and a elbow for less than $20.

Gen Turi aka generator Venturi

hot exhaust enters the pipe
the pipe is specifically designed to cause a swirling of the air as it rises, this sucks in the cool air and mixes it with the exhaust

I sometimes use just a sweep to make the hot air rise but probably too heavy to mount on a small generator's exhaust.


I would adapt a smaller sweep that has a air gap and uses the two bolts to mount starting with something like this:

Two questions, One answer. NO

The purpose of the Gen-Turi is to keep exhaust fumes out of the RV

Proper placement of the Honda will do that.. At a distance,, Downwind if possible and with the exhaust pointd AWAY from anything with people in it.

Sadly hardly a year goes by where we do not read of a Generator related death.. Either a motor home w/o a Gen-turi or a portable pointed at something full of people.

They make something for the Honda 2000 and sell some on EBay. Check there but they are expensive.

Its brand new. dont even have it yet. Just getting prepared. Maybe its not needed, and thats what I am trying to find out too.

My Yams stink and smoke a little during the first minute or so of operation, but that goes away. Only once did I get too generous with the Stabil mixture and it had to burn through a smokey tank of gas.

haham thats what I am trying to avoid both for me and them. From comments I've read online(I dont have the gen in my possession yet), there are two bolts on the exhaust that may be usable. I was hoping to steal someone elses thoughts/design. Not sure how one would support something that is potentially 10' or more tall to get it above trailer height.
