I would like to know what Brand of dash cams some of you use that is inexpensive and are easy to use and don't have a bunch of bells and whistles.

On your Android phone go to settings, Developer Options, Stay Awake set to ON.

When you plug in your phone to charge it won't go to sleep.

Nothing worse than getting in a tight spot & then having your phone go to sleep on ya! LOL

Again, what brands of cameras???? I am seeing ads on Facebook for something called Handy cams and they're 59.95 and you get two. but then, you probably get what you pay for.

yes you do. my first one was one of those with the little flip down screen for about $20 and it sort of sucked. my next one recommended by somebody here was about $50 and it worked OK. my last one was about $250 and also had a rear view module, lane departure warnings, proximity alarms, etc.

IMO I wouldn't have anything larger than a 5" screen. Much larger and it becomes too much of a distraction. That's one of the great things about voice directions.

I am "visual" guy and respond better to what I see, than what I hear.
But regardless, the voice directions can be pretty misleading, especially at big intersections in dense city.
I am standing at big intersection and the voice says "turn right in 100 feet" so I am getting ready to turn into next street.
But when I am in the center of the first intersection the voice says "turn now"
I did not see the question above, so late response.
The picture I posted is from computer reading the camera and using computer maps to point the location.
The small camera not only is showing road in post stamp size, but it automatically turns off the screen after few seconds.

yep, the gps in my tacoma can show in good detail on the 7 inch screen the exact layout of exits so I can visualize exactly what/where the best lane to be in is and I can ignore "make a U turn now" that I used to get from my standard GPSes.

I do use my Galaxie s5 all the time and it works great along with a paper map.
I was asking about the dash cam, however.

get one with a decent sized screen. I went from 4 1/2 inches to 5 inches to 7 inches. unless your smartphone is tablet sized I would consider it to be worthless as a GPS.

My intention is to use the dash cam memory as an aid. There is nothing as frustrating as a large city with small street signs. Use my laptop as a playback of streets passed. GPS to coordinate distance. This is fordown here. In the states if I have enough warning time in heavy traffic I won't miss a crucial turn. Oth items seem to cost better than $250 total and I cannot afford that. I have to wait until midnight to get internet and the advertisements I see are either deceptive, confusing or both. It's a lot to ask for out of a single device.

And yes the dash cam is important. I know folks who place three individuals in front scouting for street signs down here.

Is that while traveling, or is the "camera viewer" you're referring to a laptop, or tablet or some such? Is this the Cobra system you referred to earlier in the thread?

They do work at making it confusing. It says "with Google Maps GPS". That would make me think that it is a GPS, but I think it just allows you to see your position on Google Maps when you play it back on the device your using. Not real time GPS.

They could label it differently and make it a lot clearer, but I guess that would defeat the whole purpose behind it.

Here is shoot from my camera viewer. For some reason GPS is not showing current location. I will have to read more manuals.

Clown? Bufoon? The last time somone who claimed to be "salty" called from The "Goat Locker". CPO berthing. One thing I refuse to do is engage in is name calling or labelling. A phrase "suggesting of racism" is not the same thing as being labelled a racist. Maybe you got up on the wrong side of bed. Maybe your disposition encourages you to disparage others. Drop it, OK? I can kid around. If it upsets you don't read anything I write. I did learn from MOST of this thread.
