LiFePo4 winter storage

I have 2 100 AH LiFePo4 batteries in my Class B Xplorer which I will not use from the first week of December until April. If I disconnect the black ground can I just leave them in the unit? The batteries are in a case under the van.

Keeping Lithium batteries "topped off" when not in use isn't recommended by my battery manufacturer. I suggest you don't apply wet cell rules to Lithium.

A) discharge battery to say about 60-50% SOC
B) disconnect battery cable, or install simple disconnect switch at battery terminal
C) Enjoy your worry-free winter hibernation!

It it were me, I'd completely disconnect each battery just to be safe. If any voltage imbalance occurs between the two batteries during storage it'll prevent any residual current flow while they're stored. Current flow of any kind in very cold weather is a no-no for lifepo4's. Also, lifepo4's don't like being floated or stored at a high SOC. Ideally, you'll leave them at 50-60% SOC for the winter.

Among the other quirks of Li, they DO NOT want to be float charged.

Disconnect the positive cable, wrap it in red electricians tape.

Store at 50% state of charge.
