Nothing works?

My fifth wheel trailer sat for 4 years and batteries went dead.
Installed new batteries yesterday.
Nothing works, so I plugged into house with 15 amp power.
Everything works?
Do the batteries need to charge longer to get 12 volt lights to work?
Thanks in advance for any help with this problem.

Well, Thanks for all the advice!
They arrived in Albuq. 3 days before the 4th. of July.
They checked the fuses in the battery box and "BINGO" put a new fuse in and all the lights and everything that works 12 volt was correct.

I have a 40a fuse from the batteries to the fuses in the box. Do you happen to also have an inline fuse?

Check the voltage going into the fuse box to narrow down your search.

Cerritos to Albuquerque? That's quite a gas bill to trouble a battery issue.

If it was outside there is a possibility of a rodent chewing a wire or two! Good Luck.

even if there is no visible corrosion there can be some under the wire insulation. I once had that problem, new wires did the trick.

There should be a fuse or circuit breaker on the battery's (+) phase cable within a few feet of the battery. Check there first. Do you have a meter?

Necessary Cable NOT connected when batteries/cables replaced. For example, we have four cables connected to positive on our battery. Leave one off, something isn't going to work. I didn't combine them into a common terminal, but I did tape them all together to help avoid missing one.

Could the converter have gone bad?

If 12v things like lights work when on shore power, the converter must be working. What isn't working is the connection from the batteries to the converter.

X2, it would give you a starting point for troubleshooting the problem.

Maybe check for "terminal corrosion" at the converter as a next step.

How did the terminals at the battery disconnect look?
