Oil Prices

Gasoline and diesel fuel prices have dropped significantly due to the oil "glut," but the price of engine oil has remained basically unchanged. Does anyone know why?

Just remember your state legislators have a dog in this fight.

State sales tax revenues. Nice to know -everyone- wants high oil prices except the oeople who foot the bill.

I don't think anyone told the gas stations here in town that the prices should be going down.

The constant rise for no good reason of regular engine oil has caused me to switch to synthetic which is competitively priced now. Walmart has it for about $25/5 qt container( not sure of exact price). Now I'm changing my oil at 10,000 mile intervals instead of 7,000 miles.

Oil is at a recent high right now...

Because consumers do not demand competitive pricing. VLCC schedule years on advance. Most of the crude can be manipulated to make different products. Germany, japan and india, brasil, and the middle east list for both base oil and finished product lubricants which are a heck of a lot less costly to ship. That being said I saw castrol in Wal-Mart for $16.99/ 5 qts.
