Portable Solar

Does anyone have much experience with portable solar? I find that occasionally we end up in shaded campsites affecting our roof top solar, but the sun is not far away.
Do most anything to stay away from generators. My trailer has 300w on the roof now. I see this one on Amazon and seems like it'd be a good interim alternative.

I always try and park in the sun. There are times when the only sites left in a park or campground are treed in.....and it's 17 degrees, That is when I will need a suitcase solar....only then.

been using portable panels for many years now. We often camp with the trailer under trees and sun a ways away.

Advantages of portable
1) can be 100ft or more away from trailer to get into sun
2) can be easily tilted to get optimum angle
3) can be positioned due south easy

Disadvantages
1) don't charge when driving
2) can grow legs
3) take time to set up
4) need a place to store them.

Depends on what is important to you.

I carted around a couple panels years ago.. got real tired of it very quickly. And wind was always a problem. It was much easier to put 'em on the roof and park in the sun.

We also deploy our Renogy solar suitcase in addition to our rooftop solar, it really gives quite a boost as it performs nearly at full bore the whole day while rooftop solar only peaks out a few hours daily.

I really like my 120 watt portable suitcase panels. If we are in really deep shade, I can take the panel and a spare battery far from the trailer and put them in the sun. (I rarely have to do this, but it is nice to know that I can.)

Having said that, the rooftop panels are "set and forget." The portables need to be deployed and then packed. Not a big deal, but just one more little chore.

I just fired up my system with two 100 watt panels. I have a splitter and run them in parallel. I have a 15 foot power cord to put them in the sun. I just made up another 15 footer for a total of 30 feet of 10 gauge to use if necessary. I may end up putting them on the roof, or may not.

I use the Renolgy 100 Watt suitcase, comes with a nice case, easy to store.

I made up easy plugins for it,easy to use and move around and keeps the batteries topped of nicely.

Making a portable solar panel kit is easy,I see you own a trailer so storing a 100 watt panel would be easy. I own a TC so I just hinged 2 50 watt panels together and bought a charge controller and mounted it on the back.

I use two portable panels that total about 125 watts and put a plug on the side of my rig to hook up. They charge my two 6volt batteries with no problems. Easily moving them around towards the sun.
