Sears, the 125-year-old icon, has 24 hours to survive.

The employer of more than 68,000 filed for bankruptcy in October. Its last shot at survival is a $4.6 billion proposal put forward by its chairman, Eddie Lampert, to buy the company out of bankruptcy through his hedge fund, ESL Investments. ESL is the only party offering to buy Sears as a whole, people familiar with the situation tell CNBC. Without that bid or another like it, liquidators will break the company up into pieces.

Mex and Ernie, play nice.
A good thread has once again turned into political BS and personal attacks.
I do believe this BS is what made me vacate this Forum years ago and I come back and it looks like things haven't changed. So sad.

In other news, the local Sears is one of the stores slated for closure. I can't say that I'm surprised although I do feel bad for the employees. We didn't shop in there often, but the employees we encountered were helpful. Haven't bought anything Craftsman in quite a while so I can't speak to the quality compared to previous tools. Quite honestly, for no more than I do with hand tools, my Husky set augmented with Harbor Freight for some specialty tools I really only needed once has served me quite well. I do have some older Craftsman socket sets and wrenches that were passed down that I use as well.

Mex you are showing quite plainly what your problem is and you should get the help you need. I thought you checked out a few times already but then decided to return to haunt us? I'm with Dave and see no purpose in continuing this conversation. If and when the occasion arises again when you feel you might have a free pass to start your racially oriented rants consider me as a willing source for rebuttal.

Right on most points.
Wrong about inferiority complex insulting and incorrect.
It's extreme intolerance.

That said a significant enough amount of your post at least, to me is valid. I am cranky and have a short temper. By the way ChinRish is racist. ChingLish is like Spanglish a valid description that no one down here takes offense at.

It is said Craftsman tools quality went to the cellar.

I am seeing on the road new or near new automobiles with LED arrays burned out meaning chips inoperative on twenty thousand dollar automobiles.

You may have a point there but I feel the problem is more deeply rooted and Mex has found a "home" for his racially oriented rants with a few others chiming in in support. It's disturbing to have to wade through all his venom when in fact I only want to access this site to exchange information and learn new things. Isn't that why we participate? Who wants to constantly read his complaints and p.....g and m.....g about how silly and inferior the products and the verbiage from china is and also how worldly and connected he is. He has a severe inferiority complex and all the name dropping he does does not help his case. Let's hope we don't have to deal with his "chingrish" and "dragon" talk anymore and get back to a civilized and informative tone for the good of us all. Mr. Moderator we need help.

ernie1, I think you are wrong about the source of the OP criticism. Health condition has a lot to do with this. You were right in the last line, though - can't take any disagreement. Can't or won't read/understand the arguments even where there is no disagreement, - he just won't.

Forgot to include my personal experience with Sears. Only once bought an item from them - not "their" brand tools, just "from them". Washroom vanity cabinet, local pickup. Probably made in China, don't remember. Sub-par quality, but I only needed looks and low price, it was a temporary situation. Experience was exactly like that of the other poster - "Hey, is there anybody here"? Took me a while wandering around the store and locating my box.

When Sears name comes up in web search, I don't bother to click. Unlike with Home Depot, Amazon or Walmart where link would take you to the item you entered in search parameters (give or take whatever Google considers to be a "close match"), with Sears the link would take you to their homepage/landing page. Then you can browse Sears catalog, where the actual item may or may not be.

Sad to see. I have a garage full of Craftsmen tools. My Dad was a 40-year Sears man.

Most of the old Craftsman tools were made in USA and very good quality; I still have mind from 30 years ago. The new stuff is China Junk, same as HF as mentioned.

You're done already? Can't take the heat? You should do what you told me to do. "Suck it up, suck it up"! It's obvious what the source of your ranting is and that is that you choose to put down who you think are lessor people than yourself when in fact you are jealous of others' success and their ability to compete. You are a typical playground bully who can't take criticism but can surely dish it out. Come on Mex stay with us already!

Im confused. Are we still talking about Craftsman tools or health care in Mexico?

Morning.

No, we aren't, but the OP is/was :). Unfocused stream of hot air, as it happened so many times before. One of reasons why I rarely follow his posts anymore. The ratio of spice to meat too high to my taste.

Have fun discussing corporate mishaps of Sears... here in Technical section.

I think the last thing I got at Sears, were some Michelin tires back in 2002 or something. Took forever to buy them and get them mounted and get out of there. It took effort to actually get some service. Hello anybody working here??????

The rumors about the demise of Sears have been strife in lots of forums for years, no doubt that helped steepen their downfall, along with that poor unadaptable busines model, which almost seems intended to fail. Cashing out and done and done perhaps.

As far as having a retail store and Online presence, well Wal-mart seems to be pulling this off.

I really despise entering their stores, usually just for 5 quart jugs of motor oil for perhaps half the price of buying at autoparts stores.

BUt after some 9 years of faithful service running 24/7/365, my silverstone fm121 fan's circuit board was so corroded and impacted with greasy dust, it quit. Amazon had it for 20$, Walmart online for 15$ free shipping. not being a prime member, I said F it 5 bucks is 5 bucks and ordering was simple. If sears sold it for 15$ too I would it would come down to shipping, and website design as to who got my business.
Sears seems to have chosen not to adapt, almost intentionally.

I doubt the decision makers are hurting financially.

Craftsman as a brand name, 'meh' for many years now, in my opinion.

Diehard, same. What was it, a decade ago when the die hard platinum was a relabelled Odyssey AGM battery, even then people were like sears will likely not be around to warranty it should the need arise.

Further explanation...

I was paid in cash and driven to LA to try and separate wheat from Chaff. Very wealthy and snobbish buyers in Tijuana.

"None of these places have electricity"

They furnished the batteries. I furnished the inverter.

Many pallets had working electrical appliances.

Many did not.

It was my job to segregate pallets. It was worth a $500 deposit into my wallet. I am not a braggart. I omit much of my hand's on experience to save the rhetoric. But after checking hundreds of pallets I have a pretty good idea about not plugging the product in before it leaves China. I dissected dozens of examples to be sure of my suspicions.

And there are folks out there with zero experience trying to say my findings are all wrong.

Most of my info I got from Pat Tuminaro fresh from a Snap On convention. But do I REALLY need to say this? I think not. Amateur disagreer's will try and argue a point into the ground. They thrive on it. I thrive on facts. Adios. My participation is done here 🙂
