Question on the supporting device between the two axles, ( I don't know what it is called)
Is there any type of maintenance or bolt tightening I should know about, or is it maintenance free ?

Check the nuts on the top of the U bolts holding the springs to the axle.

Very common to have them loosen up.

Happened to me....

Since you have tandem axles, be very thorough on lug nut torque. Tight maneuvering can work them loose, particularly on the left/driver side. Back in the Day, left side was left hand thread. Left on Left tends to Tighten with driving, like Right on Right does. But Right on Left tends to Loosen.

Thanks for the information Scott.

If you have wet bolts, you will have zerk fittings in the end of the bolts, a popular upgrade. Most rigs don't come with them and have the cheap plastic bushings that last a couple of years. Wet bolts are the way to go if you ever upgrade.

Hi Jack, It's called an "equalizer" and unless someone has installed wet bolts on it, there's nothing to maintain. (wet bolts will have a zerk fitting in the head)
It should be checked yearly for severe wear though. The worst wear occurs in the top hole. If worn badly, the bolt will continue to work its way down, creating a slot. If it looks like any of the bolts holes are elongated then it's time to replace it.
