Water heater problem

I went to use my hot water this weekend and nothing came out of hot side, turned faucet on and nothing came out, water tank is full, anyone have any thoughts?

Just for clarification:

I never made a living as an RV guy nor have I ever suggested so.

I made my living operating boilers/turbines/generators and ALL the auxiliary associated equipment necessary in the operation of a Power Plant for a major utility and US NAVY be that battery banks, lube oil, fuel oil, centrifuges, propane, air compressors, chillers, electric systems (220KV down to 24V), electronics and line protection.

As the Control Operator I not only ran the plant and directed my crew but ALL Maint. crafts had to get approvals/permissions to work on the various systems from me----so I had to have a real good working knowledge of their craft and how it would affect operations or if safe for them.
So I spent lot of time cross learning....part of skill set needed for advancing to Control Operator and keeping from making major blunders during ones career

I HAVE done majority of repairs to ALL my RVs for over 40 yrs, friends RVs, Neighbors RVs and campers at various CGs around the USA during travels.
Coming from a Power Plant (propulsion/electrical generation) background I like to delve into things and figure how they work, why they work and how I can make them work. Power Plant experience (complicated systems) lets me understand RV stuff and I just like to help when I can.

Not always full up on some of the A/C components and those Aqua Hot systems but I keep trying to learn (and pass on info)
And sometimes I am just flat wrong!

I decided LONG ago that if mine ever failed, I would just remove the contents of the check valve, and put a shutoff on that line. That way, I would have nothing to fail.

Mine never failed, and we are taking her to the dealer Thursday. We are trading her in on an Airstream.

Old Biscuit seems to always have the answer. I had to take my HWH out to replace mine. Not really a difficult task. Turn the propane off of course and drain the tank. It took some heat from a torch and good wrenches to get mine out. Less than 10$ at Home Depot for the part.

The check valve in the water heater HOT outlet has failed. It is in the fitting on the tank (top one).
They are junk......cheap plastic plunger/spring/o-ring assembly,


O-ring dislodges, plunger gets cocked, scale/calcium builds up etc.....no HOT water flow out of water heater.

You need to post the Brand and MODEL number to get more help. On the outside of the water heater is a safety Pop Off valve. Open it and see if water flows out. Doug

If your water heater was empty it will take a while to fill it before water starts coming out.

All the valves are in the proper position, any chance water heater could be clogged?

Did you have cold water, but not hot water? Meaning, the cold faucet ran water, and the hot faucet did not run any water at all? If so.... check the water heater winter by-pass valves. If you have more than 1 valve, chances are, you have water turned off going into the tank and water beyond the outlet side. It's entirely possible to kill all hot water flow if you'rs has the 3 valve system.
