zeb vs UV

Good afternoon.
Seeing the zeb floor sealer has 5 million threads and pulled lots of attention on shining up rv's. What worries me and the reason I won't try it as of yet is It has no UV protection.

My Question is, Won't outdoor patio sealer do the same thing and will be UV resistant? Anyone try that? like a water based sealant like "clear-seal" from depot. I use that stuff on my walks and patios and it is amazing how shiny it is and holds up well even with shoveling snow and ice.

Just always wondered if I should do a science experiment.

Just remember that none of this will matter for the OP 🙂

Q: "What worries me and the reason I won't try it as of yet is It has no UV protection".

Waxes and sealants protect from "elements" and temporary restore the shine that's been lost, but don't do much for UV blocking. To do this, you would need a coat so thick that you wouldn't see the original paint underneath.

It really surprises me that folks spend tens of thousands of dollars on their rig and then try and cheap out using Zeb or something else not designed for RV's.

I have been using PoliGlow for 5 years ore more repeating the annual coating as specified and counldn't be happier. My rig was somewhat chalky and faced (hardly a "basket case though"), when I got it (2005) and Poliglow has given me the best results. My boat gets the same treatment although I do occasionally need to strip the area where my fuel fill burps.

Yes $50 for 32 oz is more than the $5/gal Zeb but you get what you pay for in this case. One bottle will last me for years when only doing a coat or two every year.

Like others have posted I firmly believe that the preparation
is paramount.

yep, IIRC this "mess' started when Lowes/Home depot were unloading it for 50 cents per 55 gallons or some such, and bad/cheap habits are hard to break. 🙂

I don't remember anybody saying that they never had to strip the stuff off? scouring it off with an abrasive doesn't sound to me like a good idea. lots of other options that are better/easier

with all of the other products out there that don't have the "hassle" of scouring the yellowed product off with BKF, et.al., I am still amazed that people continue to use this one??

Yup sprayed it on let it sit for a minute or so rub it off with a damp magic eraser.

The first time I removed ZEP from the front cap using ZEP stripper, it exhausted me for 4 hours. I wet it down, sprayed, rinsed and scrubbed. I built up a few muscles.

Second time I did it differently. Sprayed stripper on the DRY surface, let sit a minute then wipe with a damp rag. Let it dry. Repeated about three time and it was clean. Found if I spray it on and let sit and then spray it on again, the ZEP runs down the side.

Verified that another time. Sprayed then rinsed with a hose and dried the surface before repeating. Very little effort compared to the first time.

ZEP does yellow a bit after a year or 2, but it makes the TC look much better.

I like the TC to look nice so I'll keep using it, it's much cheaper than a new camper.

I don't think you will find any wax with substantial measure of UV protection. Having to leave my truck in Mexico for summer, I researched this subject - there is nothing. Waxes that do mention UV, in independent tests show mere 5-6% of UV blocking.

303 Aerospace is the only thing that works for UV, it's not perfect, though no problems to remove - it basically washes away after one rainy summer.

OTH, if the goal is "shining", this is a different matter. I intend keeping my trailer until it matures to 15 years old (at least), and by then shine won't matter much.

I guess my experience was different. Our white has turned to a yellow and because of the color I had to removed the red max completely or It would be white and yellow. My guess is the guys that felt it was an easy job did not need to remove what I had to but if happy is good for the result that is great. I believe all stories are true including mine.

When the Zep was tired and faded in spots on my trailer this spring I simply scrubbed the whole trailer down with Bar Keepers Friend on a sponge. That seemed to clean it up pretty well.

Once that was done I reapplied the Zep and the trailer looked great again.
