What did you do to your truck today?

I love cruising through the "what did you do to your camper today" thread, I figured I'd add a "what did you do to your truck today".

I'm sure that many of you are like me....and your truck that you use to haul your camper gets a lot of special attention to make sure it's in tip-top shape for your adventures.

I'll start out.....

Today I mounted 2 PIAA 520 Fog lights and 2 PIAA Driving lights to my winch bumper, and aimed them.

This evening, I received a box containing torklift stableload bumpstops. Those will have to wait for another day....we've got a blizzard going on here.

At around 110,000 miles my 2005 2500HD began to have a drop if gear oil hanging from the pinion seal. It didn't drip for the longest time. Then, if the truck sat for a month or so it would leave a half dollar sized stain on the driveway. I replaced the seal. It leaked. I replaced it again and used caulk. It leaked. I put on a speedy sleeve. It leaked. Then I found out that GM has a redesigned yoke. It's much more robust looking than the old one. And the seal is much beefier than the original. Time will tell if this is the fix. I'll keep everyone posted.

I do believe GM knew there was a problem. Why redesign something that works. Plus it was in stock. A yoke is not a common item to have sitting on the shelf.

I set my Quadzilla pump stretch to 2300 and also moved the timing to 7* at 65% from at 8* at 100% so hopefully it will eliminate some of the surging.

Swapped out the small "05" turbo mouthpiece with a Kodiak MP, makes a big difference, no more slight hesitation, more like a launch now.

It would be a lot cheaper to pull them and have them bench tested for leak down and spray pattern and then replace / rebuilt the bad ones. Usually it's only one or a couple injectors that are at fault. Any competent diesel shop with an injector bench can do it a lot cheaper than new (reman) injectors.

Problem with a dura-max, besides a touchy pump (fuel filters must be changed on time, every time is, a bad injector can wash a cylinder pretty easily.

New Costco battery. Lasted about seven years. I inadvertently let it die in storage and would not recover.

Getting ready to pull the farm tank out and return the truck to camper duty. Gonna be a PITA, the tank is almost full. I used less fuel than I expected to.

Not bad on the brakes. I did my own last summer on my F350, everything new back and front and new brake hoses too. Calipers, pads, shoes drums, seals, wheel cylinders and hoses was about 400 bucks from Rock Auto.... and my time. I'm getting too old to horse the stuff around. I just changed out 4 tires and balanced them on my wife's van. I keep telling myself, at 67 I need to 'farm' it out. I still like doing it and I have the tools and know how so, why not.

I can do anything from an engine rebuild to air conditioning. All it takes is time and I'm retired so I have the time.

Have to do the brakes on the van next. Rotors, calipers pads, shoes and drums, plus it needs a new valve cover gasket.

Tires are still the hardest but tractor tires are wicked to break down. I use a n air operated bead breaker but you still have to lever the tire off the rim... and they are heavy too. My big radials weight about 300 pounds each unfilled.

Keeps me young, active and muscular.

Stared intently at it. Remembered to plug the battery charger back in so the starting battery doesn't go flat again.

I waled by mine and noticed that diesel fuel was coming out the vent cap on the 150 gallon tank in the bed. Must have filled it too full last Saturday. Hot here and the fuel is expanding.

Keeping the grass down underneath...

Burning man,
Is the manual torque converter lockup switch, part of your Quadzilla?
If you could expand on the lock up switch it would be appreciated. Im looking for something to keep transmission temps under control, while towing uphill slowly. Its for a 1999 ford 7.3 auto

Do you have the latest V2 software in your Quadzilla? That's an absolute "must", it changes everything.
Mapping the fuel curve super easy with the new slider controls on the latest iQuad app update too.

Is the shudder the torque converter lockup clutch slipping? Mine did that (and then fried) when I had a stock transmission, and that was with smaller injectors and an Edge EZ tuner (mild).
You could also have a little too much timing advance in it. Back that off a degree or two and see if it smooths out.
The other possibility is fuel supply, if you have a stock lift pump it may not be supplying adequate fuel pressure for running a tuner. Those should all be ditched and replaced with either a Fass, AirDog, or a mechanical Fuel Boss lift pump setup. The VP44 injector pump doesn't live long unless it has plenty of fuel pressure coming into it.

I'll have to check the version. Can you PM me your number and I can ask you some questions and give you more info on my truck? Thanks!
