2 dirtbikes in standard bed while pulling trailer?

my new Superduty has a 6'8" bed, and I've always owned long beds in the past so this was never an issue.

when I travel to dirt bike events I have the need to have at least 2 bikes in the bed of the truck. 1 will fit without a problem on a diagonal, however 2 need to be in straight and I can not close the tailgate this way.

one option is to take the tailgate off, but I would rather not.

has anyone used a device such as this to keep the tailgate partially closed/open and does it have the clearance needed to clear a travel trailer? in the pictures they only show it being used with a flatbed trailer where the only concern is the tongue jack and not the gate hitting the trailer in a full lock turn?

If you put the front tires into the corners of the box and bring the rear wheels together, the tailgate should close.

way too much work on a motorcycle, if I was going across country and that was my only option...then maybe, but looking for something quick and simple, I'm going to order the tailgate latch bars

umm, you must be thinking of bicycles, that would be WAY too much of a hassle for a motorcycle..

When I used to take my Harley in the bed with our TT in tow, I'd take the tailgate off for the same reason. I used four new straps and a rope for backup. The bumper was perfect height for the planks to be level with the bed for loading and unloading the ol' sow.

Hauling my ATV in my 5'5" bed truck I am unable to close the tailgate as well. Like coolbreeze01 I use a ratchet strap from the ATV down to the bumper to hold the tailgate up, no clearance problems at all.

i have just used some tie downs in the past, not as fancy as the system you put but it works just fine

I use DG tailgate supports which work the same as the ones pictured when I haul my RZR and am very pleased with them.

I like the fact it creates a rigid closure. No tailgate bouncing. Looks clean and simple.

Hauling my RZR, my gate wouldn't shut, so I raised it up against the tires and used simple tie-downs to keep it up. The system you show looks better.
No interference with the trailer and tailgate.

the tongue jack is not the real concern for me, but I'd like to know if the use of the tailgate latch bars is enough to keep the gate from kissing the trailer on tight turns?

a bed extender would nice, but the only way would be to use a hitch extender which drastically limits the tongue weight the hitch can handle. So I'm looking for other options.

Looks like a good idea...but, why not make your own from a couple of lengths of chain and carabiners .

They make a quick release for the tongue jack. Check into that and you may be able leave your tailgate down.
