2008 F250 V10 question

To start this off, I just bought the 2008 F250 with the V10, and I dont care much for the idiot gauges. So what would be a good after market setup that I could plug into the obdii port to monitor the temps and pressures, for sure the tranny temp.

Thanks Wes

With Apple (the I phone any way) you need the WiFi dongle. Something with apple and bluetooth is a no-no.

You can change the size of the gauges. There are 3 different sizes to choose from. I chose the larger size and fit them onto my screen so i can read them. I do agree it is small on an I phone (or any smart phone) if you have it available i would use an I pad or tablet.

Very good. I did read that on certain year Ford's you may need an in app purchase of $10 to get full use of the app. I don't know what the difference is because I bought it right away.

Good luck!

I think I will try this, thanks for the info.
do you think it maters, bluetooth or wifi?

It really depends on your platform.

iOS- Buy the WIFI Dongle... BlueTooth will not work
Android- Buy BlueTooth Dongle

I'm going to use my iPad Mini due to the screen size. I can't see the gauges on the iPhone... Maybe if I can figure out how to blow them up really big like Dodge Guys screen shots

Thanks!

Dodge Guy, you just saved me so much money! I just ordered my dongle and downloaded the app for about $25.00 total!. I'm going to use my iPad mini instead of my iPhone so I can actually see it. Now I can monitor both my Kia and my Town Car!!

Thanks!

Here are some screen shots of my Dash Command App.

These gauges can be configured any way you want. you can even have 2 gauges in one. the dial can read one parameter and the digital in the middle can read another. for instance the gauges in the 2nd pic I have RPM on the dial and coolant temp in the digital.

You can even do 0-60 and 1/4 mile times along with G forces if your into that kind of thing!

And for people that like off roading.....

These are even better with an I pad or a tablet. but the I phone or smart phone works great!

I like to know real numbers, even on the gauges that have sending units in the ford, none of them have any number markings which I don't like.

My 07 Cummins had some real gauges, some buffered. Engine coolant temp was dead accurate until a certain level, then, even as the actual temp continued to climb, the needle didn't. Then, once it reached another threshold, the needle would move 20% up in 1 second, then back to being accurate again. Oil pressure was also buffered. Its common. The scangauge I had gave the real/actual numbers.

Oil pressure in the Fords is a simple switch.

The engine and transmission temperatures do get a sender signal, but the PCM buffers the signal so it doesn't fluctuate within the normal range.

They have what a lot of people refer to as "idiot gauges". They don't actually indicate pressures and temperatures. Instead a limit switch and the computer just directs the needle to point into a reasonable range unless there is a problem.

It's not just Ford doing this. My GMC has an oil pressure switch. The computer calculates what pressure the "gauge" should indicate. If it drops below about 7psi the needle drops immediately to zero.

Thought all F250 V10s had gauges plus a tachometer. My 2002 and 2008 had gauges, including tranny temp.
