2012 Ram Laramie

I'm looking at a 2012 Ram Laramie dually with the 6.7 Cummins. It has 140,000 miles and is in very good clean shape. I want to know the opinions of Ram owners of the same year truck or anyone who has knowledge of this particular year and trim of this model. Don't want to start a brand war just the skinny on this year and model. Thanks in advance.

My 2012 (see signature), has 16,000 miles, most of them towing. I get 11.8 mpg towing and 13.8 not towing. It rides and handles just like a luxury sedan. It is my third truck and we just love it. Originally it was priced at 61k and we paid 56k.

If the seller can provide proof of regular maintenance and are willing to go around 25k, go for it.

Well you should be able to get better mileage than that, especially unloaded.
Get back to us in the year 2026 once you get enough miles to get er broke in.......lol

I'm going to be looking at 2014 3500 SLT Dually tomorrow . It has 50,000 kilometers on it or 30,000 miles. It's nicely optioned out and like new as far as I can see from the pics. It's on a Ram dealers lot and was traded in on a new truck. I'll let everyone knows what happens and thanks again to one and all.

As said, the '13 and up models have significant changes. '12 and older have the same drivetrain as 3rd Gen trucks down to 07.5. Not a bad thing, but the major chassis upgrades are significant on the newer models. Bigger or stronger frame, brakes, front end components and axles. Plus the better mileage of scr emissions. And you can get a srw truck with the Aisin trans potentially.
Bad part is it seems apples to apples, early 4th gen truck owners seem to ask just as much for them as the 13-14 models.

DEF is NOT an issue. Every 3-5k miles pour in 2 1/2 gal. Takes about 3 minutes.
As mentioned the new ones have new heavier frames and higher payloads. 14k for DRW.
Your looking at a Laramie, but if all the luxury items are not needed, you can get a brand new 16 Tradesman 4x4 CC DRW with Aisin trans and 4:10 gears for $46k. And you get full factory warranty and not have to worry about an unknown history.
With the price discounts at the volume dealers, it almost doesn't make sense to buy a used truck.

See that's my thing is that with 140k miles you will have repair costs at some point and if you own a diesel you will know it's expensive. Used trucks hold value and you may want to see if you can find a 2014 or 2015 that may be still on the lot if you have any room in your budget.

I only have @26k on my 12' Laramie limited, most of it towing. Love the truck! Mileage isn't the best but with 4.10's and towing 17-18k I'll settle with 8-8.5.

This is form a guy on the TDR. Sounds like his truck is falling apart ๐Ÿ˜‰

"2011 3500 rear wheel drive duelly 68RFE auto. In dash hubometor is stopped and stuck at 619,639. Fuel mileage sliding tape is with no sliding tape, average fuel mileage shows zero, trip A and trip B also stopped. Speedometer and tachometer are working good. I am thinking the output speed sensor located towards the back half of the 68RFE tranny is bad. Any experience or input on this would be greatly appreciated.
I was traveling from El Paso to Chicago, three big pick up trucks loaded on my 52 1/2 foot flatbed, glanced down and noticed I was getting zero fuel mileage. Yes I make this truck worked very hard, and yes it does have that many miles."

I just traded my 2008 Ram2500 with CTD for a similar 2015 two weeks ago. The 2008 had 110,000 trouble free miles. Never in shop except for normal maintenance. The emission system was intact and worked great, but I know some of the early 6.7 had emission issues. The 67,500 miles service is expensive. I didn't need the second one yet, but was quoted way more than $500 by the dealer ($900+ if memory serves me). Make sure it's had a second 67,500 mile service. If it has not call a dealer, get a price, and subtract from your offer. Good luck. Keith

Wow...$$$ That maintenance item is almost 50% the cost of a new set of tires.

With only 28k miles on the clock, mine is like new. Some recalls like a tie rod but no issues for me. Tows a big 39' fifth wheel while riding like a Rolls. Exhaust brake is unbelievable. 13.1 empty and 10 towing.

I agree that the 2013 and up Ram 3500 is a better truck with DEF and the new frame, etc. which gives them the 14k lbs GVWR. However, as long as that truck has a clean history and service history I wouldn't be afraid of it mechanically; the Cummins is barely broken in. Just be prepared for front end work and associated things that are common with a truck with that mileage.
