First let me disclaim that I have not searched all of the forum for previous links on this topic. I will apologize in advance for that. Now, is there anyone out there using a 2014 GM half ton as their TV. I just purchased a 2014 Keystone Bullet 272BHS. Dry weight is just under 5,000lbs. Based on the numbers on the trailer CCC will bring the allowed GVW to 6,500lbs. Going to be using Equalizer WDH w/ SC. Anyone out there have a similar setup? For the Ford guys out there, I have driven the F-150EB but just not real confident with Ford and my local dealer is a professional scam artist.

That limit will be reached far sooner than the towing rating.

This is true but it all depends on who is all going camping and what they are taking with them .. I think if he can keep the TT @ nomore then 6k fully loaded he will be fine on payload , since a properly specd 1500 will have 1900lb payload. So if you take the tongue weigh of the trailer , WDH , filled up propane tank(s) & himself im pretty sure he would have at least 1k left of whatever to do with .I know in my position i would camp with just me and my gf for 2 nights , and would head out dry and camp at a full service park . Just all depends on the situation , not everyone has a family of 6 and camps for 2 weeks straight.

@aedubber.....If I didn't have a commute to work everyday, I would definitely be buying the 2500HD. My father has a 2012 Sierra 2500HD with the 6.0L that he hauls all sorts of trailer and equipment combinations with. I have trailered with that truck multiple times and it is a great setup. The only issue that I see, and it may not be an issue is the 2014 1500 doesn't have a tow mirror option.

Hmm good call on that ? Maybe the Chevy has it ? Its the identical thing to the GMC .

I am in the same boat as you , and today i went to test drive a 2014 GMC 4x4 double cab 5.3l v8 . Vehicle was great , i plan on building my own up with the MAX tow package and the 3.73 rear axle. I checked the payload sticker on the truck when you open the door and the numbers were spot on. The Dodge Ram payload is TERRIBLE so its like your almost forced to get a 2500 on the Ram model.

I also test drove a 2013 Chevy 2500HD extended cab 4x4 standard box w/ 6.0 v8 motor in it... I was surprised how well it drove for such a HD vehicle , compared to a ford f250 i had driven . I was really turned off from the interior tho as a 2500 HD is more a " work " truck and doesnt come as nice as the 1/2 ton trucks inside. You DEF could tell you were driving a truck since it was empty and no load was on it , so the rear end just felt super light , bouncy, and the ride on small bumps sucked . Im sure loaded up tho it will feel way better , but how often will you drive with a load on the truck and can you stand the drive everyday ? Thats what i ask myself as i drive 50 miles a day for work on the highway .

I do see that the 2015 Chevy 2500 HDs will be coming out early next year in 2014 with the " UPDATED" interior just like the 2014 GMC/ CHEVY 1500 interiors , so if you have time to wait , i think this would be the ultimate 2500 truck to buy. Your getting a nice updated interior , probably a smoother ride , and will still have the 3k payload and 13k towing with the 4.10 rear axle. But then again all you might need is just a 1/2 ton .

2014 GM pickups drops weight, about 250 pounds keeping same GVWR over outgoing 2013 model of same equipment. Ram payload keeps shrinking since 2009.

7500-ish GVWR should be fine for a 2014 GM pickup with 5.3L and at least 3.42. I highly recommend the NHT package which is now available with 5.3L not just 6.2L.

And if you want to whip that TT around like a rag doll, the 2014 6.2L in GM half ton is the ticket.

Thanks for all the responses. I test drove the Sierra today and really like it. The dealer only had an SLT with leather, so I will have to wait for the SLE to come in. He has a few coming in within the next couple of weeks.
A buddy of mine just bought a Ram 1500 and said it just edged out the Sierra when he was trying to make up his mind. He actually drove the Sierra during the test drive to the Ram lot and put them side by side. He is gonna show me his truck. I was just looking at the payload numbers online for the Ram and they are a lot lower than the GMC. Guess It doesn't hurt to look while I wait for the SLE to come in.

My truck and trailer are listed in my sig - my 2009 Silverado has the 5.3 with 3.73 axles, but it is a four speed, where the 2014s are sixes, and the engines rate at a bit more horsepower. My trailer gross weight is about the same as what yours. We are usually loaded down when we leave - no I haven't put it on a scales - but we do fine with no issues, traffic holdups or funny handling. My 2 cents is that if you have a properly set up hitch and don't expect (or try) to drive at 200mph over the Rockies, you will be fine.

Make sure it has the 3.42 axle and you should be able to go anywhere in the country. Enjoy.

I would look for a leftover 2013 with the 6.2 which will probably run less than a 2014 w/5.3.

Our trailer weighs 6500 lb loaded. We tow with 2012 Silverado crew cab, 5.3l 6 spd 3.42 axle, tow package Equal-i-zer 1200/12000 hitch.

Round trips Ont to Maritimes and round trip to Florida. The truck had no problems at all towing.

A 2014 should be at least as good.

My trailer as it sits now is heavier than your GVWR, and I have a noisy Equalizer, and the 2010 version of the trucks you are asking about. The new trucks are slightly more powerful so you should have to trouble with that trailer and a Sierra (or Silverado if you must go Chevy) so long as the rear end is above 3.08.

Make sure you have the 3.42 rear axle. The 3.08 is available, and limits the tow rating to 6700lbs. Which would be doable if the trailer is max at 6500.

Okay, yes let me clarify. It would be a 5.3 V8 Crew cab. I am just looking to see if anyone out there is currently using this truck. As for the numbers off the Keystone site, I am unsure of where the trailer GVW of 7,500 lbs come from, because the sticker on the actual trailer I saw at the dealer was labeled at 6,500lbs.
