That limit will be reached far sooner than the towing rating.

My father has a 2012 Sierra 2500HD with the 6.0L that he hauls all sorts of trailer and equipment combinations with. I have trailered with that truck multiple times and it is a great setup. The only issue that I see, and it may not be an issue is the 2014 1500 doesn't have a tow mirror option.
