DH is wondering what the experiences, thoughts pros & cons etc for the 2015 Silverado. We're interested in 1500 crew cab, 2 wheel and 4 wheel. LT2 or LTZ. Any complaints... praise etc.

thanks

I have a 2014 Silverado LT 5.3L w/tow pkg. Just drove 4 hours to visit relatives and averaged 22mpg non-towing. Towing 6k lbs is 10-12 mpg depending on the wind. Love the truck.

Bought 2014 1500 Silverado V8 2wd Double Cab with Stnd Bed last year (same as 2015) and it has been a dream. Comfortable and tows great on 500 mile run. Get 20" wheels for better ride when towing (but get locking wheel nuts as they are popular theft item). Ford feels more cheaply made, Tundra can be expensive due to import parts. We opted for Silverado due to price and good experience with previous Chevy V8. Can get between 20 - 25 mpg easy (8-13 mpg under load / towing 8000 lb trailer.

Currently have 2000 miles on truck in my signature. Extremely happy with it in all categories. Quietness and fuel mileage are the top 2 things I like most about it. The 6.2/8 speed is a killer combo!

A very good friend of mine just bought a new 2015 Silverado 1500 2WD regular cab long bed LT (rare to have LT trim on regular cab long bed). It is an excellent truck, rides great, looks great, very comfortable. Really, Ford/GM/Ram full size 2015 trucks are all really good. There are many great choices today.

covetsthesun,

The truck rides very smooth and the seats are very comfortable. It's so quiet it takes some getting used to. These trucks really are more like luxury cars. I have only driven it about 30-40 minutes from home so far so no long term seat time. It is 4WD with the auto transfer case option. Just select what you want. So far I haven't used anything other than 2WD.

I went with the 5.3L for the fuel economy considering it has slightly more horsepower and torque than the 6.0L that was in my 2005. I anticipate being just as satisfied with the towing ability. Payload according to the door sticker is 1,614 pounds and towing is 9,600 pounds. Both are an increase from the previous truck.

That sounds good. DH & I really enjoy the quieter vehicles made today. Our hearing isn't what it used to be and the 04 just has so much wind noise. Really like the luxury bit. The bones just like more cushy seats these days.

thanks for the info

TyStevens.. I know I don't have to go out and get stuck... I just see a road (sort of) and feel absolutely compelled to see where it goes! BLM Road in Colorado just about permanently caught me and an F150. DH was not amused. He on the other hand... "accidently" got us on a BLM Appalachian Trail fire road in our Silverado. That was... interesting...now we've both sworn off squiggly grey lines on the map pretending to be roads!

Thanks for all the replies. I plan to see what deals I can get on a 2015 1500 Crewcab LTZ or Denali. A good friend with 4wd says that I should probably not get 4wd because it would only let me get further off the beaten path before I had to call a tow truck. Probably true...that's almost happened twice with 2wd. I was hoping for a midsize SUV... but once you've lived in a nice truck for years... it's really hard to accept the confines of the smaller vehicles. If the passenger seats had been more comfortable I probably could have made the switch.

A few months ago I rode in a 2015 LTZ...it was a bonding moment. DH liked the feel of F150 Platinum. We've thought seriously about Tahoe...but a truck is a bigger bang for the buck.

On a different thread...someone said their "dream" was to see a mini Suburban. Now that would be great, assuming GM put in the really good seats.

Thanks again for the replies.

A nicely equipped truck is a great multipurpose vehicle, that is for sure. Mine is tasked from towing a travel trailer to hauling loads of landscaping materials to ferrying clients around, and does it all equally well. Not sure that you can get more for your $$ going with a truck, but I do believe that the cost to own/drive a full size isn't much more, if any, than a smaller SUV, and you have so much more capability.

Re: brands, just pick the one you like. I have owned 3 Chevy trucks previously, and they are/were all nearly perfect mechanically. One test drive in an F150 Ecoboost, and I was smitten with that engine. FWIW, my F150 gets about 10% better mpg than my 2010 Chevy 5.3 in comparable conditions, but I understand the newer Chevy trucks have closed that gap. I also have a good friend who bought a Ram 1500 last year and got an incredible deal on a very nicely equipped truck. I'm not sure you can go wrong with any of them.

Re: 4 wheel drive, you don't have to go out and get stuck just because you have it! Personally, I would never have a 2wd truck. But to each his own.

I just bought a 2015 Silverado 1500 4wd LTZ about six weeks ago. So far no issues. The navigation is a major improvement over the previous generation. The voice activation feature works great. It is amazingly quiet driving down the road. I don't care for the lane departure warning so I keep it turned off. DW loves the front and rear parking sensors. The back up camera is also much improved. I'm averaging 18MPG around town. Best MPG was 23 in the first 500 miles during the break in period keeping it under 55 MPH. I haven't towed anything yet so I can't give you any feedback, although the positioning of the trailer brake controller is much better than it had previously been. The discounts on the 2015 are pretty good. I ended up with 14% off.

How does it ride? Is it 4wd on demand (heard some trucks now have the on demand feature where the truck itself decides when it needs 4wd). How are the seats?

Gas mileage seems great.

thanks!

All 3 of the newest half tons (Ram, Ford, & GM) are very good. None have any major weaknesses. If you like GM, buy one. The brands have different "personalities" that make them appealing to one person or another.
