Getting my new truck Monday. Double cab, short bed. Has all the bells and whistles. Tow a 13,880 lb total loaded weight with 2880 lb pin box weight.

Besides adding mud flaps, is there anything that needs to be done ??

I just traded off my 11 duramax for 17 6.0 3500 silverado. It does a great job with my TC and towing a boat. But all together only about 8k in payload and tow. I use the tow haul and cruise and the tranny handles the shifting quite nicely. It definitely is entirely different from towing with the duramax. But it gets the job done just with higher rpms a lot more shifting and fewer miles per gallon. i get just under 9 miles per gallon doing 60 mph on rolling hills. Close to 11 with just the TC. Only about 13 to 14 cruising empty on the hwy. Towing as heavy as you plan I imagine you will have fond memories of your duramax. All that being said the 6.0 does just fine especially for my purposes and I like the simplicity of the gas motor over the extremely complicated diesel trucks now. I have probably owned a dozen new trucks over the years. The last three were diesels before this 6.0. All of my gas trucks were virtually trouble free during ownership. All three diesels were not. Love that diesel power the issues here and there not so much. Enjoy your new GASSER!! I have mine.

Yes I know, I have an '07 duramax now that does a great job BUT shes 11 years old with 200,000 miles. My '06 duramax with 208,000 just blew a head gasket, I don't want that to happen while on a trip. I'll just have to put my 4-ways on up hill

The 6.0 can get the job done but it will be at its limits.Coming from a Duramax you will need a serious attitude adjustment to be satisfied.
It would be very difficult for me to tow that load with a gasser and be satisfied.

Lol you won't need your flashers for the hills. Truck will pull the hills just fine. Use tow haul and don't be afraid to let it rev, I also like using the toggle switch and shift down prior the hill. Anyway the 6.0 is hard to beat. Enjoy your truck!
A truck, a camper, a few toys, but most importantly a wonderful family.

At work there are days I tow heavy bumper pull trailers and being able to adjust the air pressure is so easy. I have an onboard compressor setup.

Thank you everyone !! Lazydays, thank you, windows are factory tinted and in N.Y. we now can not have darker tint than factory, door rain guards are ordered. I do a lot of snow plowing so the bug shield keeps to much snow on the hood. Jarata1, check that, have two young Golden's lol, MURPHY55347, forgot about the weathertech, had them in our old van, great product, thanks for the reminder. MFL, have bags in my current 2500hd and did plan to add them. What a difference they make, thanks. Lynnmor, lol, I know, about every 175 miles I'm going to need gas. BenK, plan on doing break-in all of August. We are on our last summer vacation now and get home Monday in time to pick up new truck. Next vaca is winter in Florida.

Thanks everyone.

Read cover to cover and understand your glove box manual.

Follow the manual's break in procedure and do NOT tow till the rear diff is broken in

Decide on your maintenance schedule and check out the various glove box manual schedules. There are a min of two. Regular and HD (or whatever they call it).

Decide on your level of materials for your maintenance schedule. This and above depends on how long you expect to keep it. Cheap out and let the subsequent owners deal with that

Tires will need to be broken in. Some take several thousand miles to do so

Bed in your braking system's friction material to cast iron

If adding an alarm system, demand ring lug connections. That will cost a bit more, but well worth it down the road

After everything is broken in...I normally/always...check out the limits of handling...including braking. Where your preference to tire PSI and how it handles (including braking...skidding via ABS).

Hook up & check that out before any major trips and ditto check limits of towing

You may need to add some suspension help to level the load. Give it a try first. Be prepared to post a pic of truck, and truck/rig together.
