Has anyone here ordered one of the new 2017 F-450's, and what will you be towing?

notice the HD tow package and gear set are 2 separate options, HD tow gives you the wide track.

So if they were a package why would they be listed as 2 separate items with separate pricing?

No need to be sorry and no, I'm not wrong. They are listed separately on the sticker but are one and the same. You can not order the high capacity tow package without 4.30 gears. Order either and the other is a forced option. What do you think the high capacity tow package includes if it's not the 4.30s and the wide track? Just wide track? That certainly doesn't increase the towing capacity.

In fact, if you want to do a quick exercise, go to Ford's build and price. Change it from 2017 to 2016. Then build a DRW 350 and select 4.30 limited slip on the first page. Scroll down on the second page and you will see the high capacity tow package has already been selected. Bottom line is they are one and the same and the ONLY way to get 4.30s or wide track on a DRW is to get both as part of the high capacity tow package.

4:30 gears were not part of the HD tow package, that was an additional $350 on the 2016 models and so far I have not regretted getting either option!

BTW....believe it or not I didn't opt for the 450 because I didn't want the 19.5" wheels, maybe I will regret that someday ...that day hasn't arrived yet.

That is incorrect. The DRW 350 got the 4.30 gears and wide track as part of the High Capacity tow package from 2011-2016. Either option could not be ordered as a stand alone option. You got them in the package or you didn't get them at all.

Does the 350 and 450 come equipped the same at the same trim level For example XLT to XLT?

Yes they do. However, one thing you can no longer get with the 350 which would be a deal breaker for me, is the wide track front axle. With the previous generation you could order the HD tow package on the DRW 350 which came with 4.30 gears and the wide track just like a 450. For 17 they discontinued that option. So, if I wanted or needed a DRW, I would go with the 450 just to get the wide track even though I likely wouldn't need the 4.30s. These trucks are so long and yet the wide track allows them to turn inside the circle of a short bed.

I don't recall ever seeing an RV heavy enough to warrant a 4:30 rear axle. I think the F350 is almost always a more suitable choice for RV use.

Humm.. the one I saw them test on that Fast Lane Truck youtube channel had a MSRP of around $80k... Sure, it was a Platinum.. I don't need or want a truck that big or fancy.. I'll never get a trailer that requires that kind of rig, nor want one.. I'm just a long weekend camper, so to me, what I have now is more than enough.. Each to their own of course. Yes, that sounds right Mitch. And, a SRW 350 Platinum Ultimate with most options has an MSRP of $78500. So, like I said, not much more coin for the big dog when you're already at that level. That said, I'm staying SRW on my 17 order (and Lariat too) as I just don't have the need for a 450. Even with my 44.5' 21k GVWR toyhauler. It's not about the money either. It's about driving one every day which I'd rather not do. Plus, with the ratings so high on the new SRW 350's, even the weight police here can't sweat me anymore. 28,700 GCWR for the new SRW 350's is massive and having weighed my trailer loaded to the gills, I know I'll be under that. It takes a really significant RV to require a 450 these days...

It's a little different when your towing your home and everything you own. I got by with a 7x7 tent, a sleeping bag, and a coleman stove and lantern for 30 years but that was then.

A tent and a small stove is all you will still get in areas that one.Can not get an rv too! Plenty of places to see where an rv will not go. Top of mount Rainer is not a place an rv goes. One has quite the.view from their. Or Mt Adams, baker, Olympus to name a few places I've been.

The price of a 450 is only a couple grand more than a SRW 350. If you can afford one, you can afford the other.
