After owning 3 F350 Fords through the years and all with 7.3's I never had any trouble with them other than regular maintainece stuff. In Feb. I sold my last, great 02 350 and bought a 2014 F350 cc 4x4 8' bed with the 6.7 Powerstroke and all I can say is.... WOW what a truck ! The pulling power this truck has is amazing and all the electronics it has is crazy....a good crazy... I don't know if the 6.7 will ever be as reliable as the 7.3 but it sure has it beat in power.....Time will tell......PS I'm a Ford guy 100% but I could care less what anyone else drives.

Funny analogy. I guess that's why they make the Viagra super charger for the 50's model.

One must consider the point of view in that statement.

The owner's themselves will probably never do this, so now we have whittled that point of view down to just the mechanics at the dealerships.

I would be willing to bet that the mechanics are happy about this. I mean, gee, does one want to be a mechanic or a contortionist to work on these engines?????

Pulling the cab off at the least gives them open access to be able to work on the engine. And really, if it appears major work needs to be done, at the least the person doing it should be comfortable while working.

And able to easily access the multitude of areas that will need to be checked/unbolted or whatever to affect the repairs needed.

So it may sound funny to have to pull the cab, but us owners are never gonna do it.

Back on topic, it will be interesting to see how these hold up at the 100,000 mile plus marks.

I've seen a few videos where folks have put that mileage on 6.7L Powerstroke, with this fellow in Colorado doing that hauling cars for a living with a 2011 F450.

196,000 miles on 2011 6.7L Powerstroke

Now mind you, it hasn't been all roses for that guy either. 😮 Think if I recall correctly, he is on rear differential number three, with that one leaning towards having to do number four. And has been really hard on having to replace tires also.

Me??? I've only got a puny 30,000 miles on mine, and am getting to the point where I really need to think seriously about the next set of tires I am gonna put on this truck. But so far it has been an excellent vehicle.

I have to agree, but at least they designed it to get the cab off pretty quickly now.

Yeah, kind of way early in the game. I want to hear from the Ford guys when their warranty was over 100,000 miles ago and their extended warranty expired. Like how many times has the cab been pulled off the truck to work on that monstrosity of an engine.

Having to pull the cab to service the engine is just poor engineering and planning, that is all I have to say.

I have been researching for the last month for my first TV....
I'm a dyed-in-wool bow tie guy since forever... My current (and the last 3) daily driver is a Tahoe. Had a 83ish E350 van years ago with diesel in my work fleet, bullet proof. Rented a 2013 F-150 for a month last year, loved it... So, here I am doing due diligence and looking at what to buy, reading the 'stuff' on the internet about each of the big 3... Had lots of Chrysler products over the years, they work..... generally... My jaw dropped reading about the 6.0 & 6.4 Fords, really disappointed.. WTH, how can Ford produce trucks for 10 years with bad engines? Something is amiss. The only one left standing was my beloved bow tie... But that doesn't necessarily make me happy, I'm not married to any brand of anything.
So, I ask myself... How can there be so many Fords for sale with 150-200k on them? Have they all been fixed? Trust me, this is all confusing!! BTW, I'm a motor head of sorts.. Had all kinds of go-fast stuff, cars, boats, motorcycles... Had bigger boats with diesels, I own a crane company, and I'm still having trouble deciding. Two weeks ago it had to be a Duramax 07.5 or newer, last week it had to be a 5.9 Cummins and a Megacab. I guess next week it will be a Ford.... BTW, my budget for my first TV is $20k, I am going to test the RVing waters with my little toe before I jump in.

There is a very good chance my next truck will be another 6.7 Ford but if I were looking for a diesel for under $20k I would be willing to consider 2004 or newer Rams and I would likely end up buying a 2006 or newer Duramax.

I purchased a 05 Dodge for our ranch hand and after 1.5 years I sold it and recently purchased another 7.3 Super Duty. If it wasn't one thing it was 3 more with that truck so off it went! :M

For a Ford guy, you sure buy quite a few POS Dodge/Ram trucks. You always seems to have breakdowns with them too. Why not just buy a Ford at the beginning and save yourself the hassle? 🙂

Go back and read what I wrote...And BTW I only purchased one used Dodge truck. The used truck was for our ranch hand. I originally tried to purchase a 7.3 Super Duty but couldn't find one in decent shaped. I had my cousin looking out for a good used truck at the dealer he works at for me. He notified me when a good used 05 Dodge truck got traded in so we gave it a shot. My BIL been running a 07 Dodge DRW with pretty good success, but doesn't get the abuse like this truck does. When your buying a pre EGR diesel truck it's getting hard to find good used one.

But yes that 05 Dodge was a POS.

Not to fuel the fire , but being a long-term Ford owner and lover I found this interesting. I searched the internet for articles on the longest lasting vehicles. I was not surprised to see that the F-250 Ford Super-Duty was at the top of the list, or that 15% more of them made it to 200K miles than the second place Chevy 2500HD. No car made the top ten, (highest car was the Accord at #12) and the coveted Toyota Camry didn't make the top 20. Only three cars made the top 20 with most being pickups or SUVs. The top five were:

Ford F-250 Super Duty
Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
Chevrolet Suburban
Toyota 4Runner
Ford Expedition

What really surprised me was that no Dodge/Ram product except the Durango made the top 20. This study was of the percentage of each model originally sold that is still on the road at 200K miles. Although the manufacturers claim that they are building new cars that are capable of lasting 250K miles, surprisingly few are still around by then.

Here's the list. :B

I can assure you this: There are a hell of a lot of VW jetta TDI's on the road with more than 200k miles on them. Golf's and Passat TDI's too. Diesel owners, in general, are in it for the long haul.

I have the 2011 F350 6.7 PSD.

Yes, I had the dreaded Fuel Pump Implosion that has been well documented here on RV.Net.

I have heard less issues regarding the fuel pumps in the later year models. I need to ask my dealer if mine was the only one that detonated.

I do love my truck. It has all the power I need. Not to mention it works real well if you are a "Commuter Bully". Pedal to the floor, it can keep up with anything on the road.

PS. I live in the land of Ricky Racer wannabees.

Not a Ford hater here, but you couldn`t give me a newer diesel. give me a pre DPF/DEF diesel and I would be OK with it!

You are really missing out on some of the best trucks ever built then.

Agreed.... And that's what makes it hard to keep a truck for many years, although some are content with an older truck.

For me I had to trade in a perfectly good 7 year old truck for a new one. :h

After being used to a 6.7 PSD for a while and then driving a 7.3 PSD is a world of difference.

The 6.7 PSD power is so much stronger and with the 6 speed tranny it's the icing on the cake. :B

I know I'm in the minority here buy my 7.3 was the worst one I've had. Two cam sensors in the final year of ownership was what it took to let it go for a new 6.0L in 2005. One of those cam sensors left me stranded on the side of the road with a trailer.

My 6.0 was great for four years. My 6.4 was great for two years. My 6.7 was even better for two years. They keep getting better. The 2015 F450 is what I'm salivating over right now.
