A/C rooftop unit shroud (updated with photos)

I ordered a new shroud based on age and model and the new one is fully enclosed, while the old one has a cutout on the rear (by the fan and filter). It looks like a perfect match otherwise (will know for sure in the morning when I go to replace it), but should I cut out the rear area or just leave as is? I hope I'm making sense. Thank you!

Humm,,,, I have a orphan AC that has no replacement parts. Your paint idea might make the cover last longer. Thanks !!!

I live out in the desert where the sun is brutal on covers. I discovered years ago that a good heavy coat of white paint before installing will double the life. Cuts down on the UV.

Looks much better than original, and plenty of venting as well. All the years, with the open back, we have seen the results of damaged fins. You could buy and attach a metal cage for protection, years ago, but just makes more sense to come vented, but protected, in the first place.

The vents in the back will let enough air out. Install as is.

Ok, got the old one off this morning and new one looks just right (slightly taller) and it definitely does not have the cutout in the back. Every single one I've found so far does not so I wonder if it was done by the previous owner? Any thoughts?

Was that a factory cutout in back, or did someone add that? Your new
shroud should be the right one without modifcations.

Leave it as is- but depending on the make and model- Coleman or Duotherm/Dometic- there might be foam pieces that need to be in place to keep air from recirculating.

If the original cutout is so the condenser (radiator looking part) can breathe then yes you will have to cut the new one out.
