About to pull the trigger on this combo. Thoughts?

I thought I would update everyone. I picked this up on Friday from RV R US in Ohio. What a great place. Absolutely love this setup as I have it below. Weighed the setup after filling up with gas and an empty camper. Here is the weights I received. Steer Axle 3100 lb, Drive Axle 3780, trailer axle 4980, Gross Weight of 11,860. The yellow sticker on the door of the camper stated 5820 lb. Here it is all hitched up.

Back in this post I talked about looking for a travel trailer. Well I think I am about to end up with the following and would appreciate any advice or criticism on this configuration. Especially the weight distribution piece. I have the truck and love it and can not wait to be towing with it.

I would get the 12,000/1,200 hitch. Better to have a little more than necessary, than be equal to or short of your needs. You may also want to consider the Andersen WDH. Theirs are all 14,000/1,500 (2 5/16" ball), so you know you will be in great shape. Theirs also use a very innovative design that is exceptionally quiet and includes weight distributing, anti-sway and anti-bounce features.

Tequila, it is not likely your truck needs a WDH. However, check the receiver ratings as there should be a sticker with weight carrying and weigh distributing ratings. Older trucks OEM receivers needed a WDH over 500-600 pounds. You'll be closer to 7000 pounds with 900 pounds of TW too. Some aftermarket and newer OEM receivers on HD trucks are higher for weight carrying that you need,

I will be towing a 5500 ib trailer with a 1 ton dually fitted with supersprings and a torklift supethitch. The rear of the truck is currently about 3 inches higher than the front. Do I really need bars at all? I have to put over 3000 lbs of cargo into the bed to level the truck.

OK after reading these all and reviewing my options I will be going with the Equal-i-zer 10,000/1,000 hitch setup. Thanks again. Can not wait to pick this up Saturday!

Truck/Trailer combo looks great. I would go Equal-i-zer 1k/10k set up. I have the Equal-i-zer on my set up and it works great. A buddy has a similar set up to yours (though with the F150 HD Payload and a 31 ft Salem Cruise Lite) with the EZ Lift hitch (and s sway bars) and he has not been happy with how it tows, he ordered the Equal-i-zer after riding with me towing my 36 footer.

Don't skimp on the hitch, it is worth a couple hundred more dollars.

The loaded TT will likely weigh about 7000 lbs, so figure 13% tongue weight would give you 910. Allow for the weight of propane and you are right at 1000. If you load an extra battery on the tongue or have a lot of forward storage etc then I would go with the 1200 lb bars.

Looks like a great match. 800 pound bars are not enough IMHO. I suspect TW will be more like 950 pounds. WDH are designed to adjust to support a range of TW, like 600-1000 pounds for 1000 pound rating, or 400-800 for 800 pound rating. I I recommend 1000 pound bars, maybe 1200 if you went with Reese trunion.

I highly recommend a WDH with integrated sway control. Equal-i-zer brand 4-pt, Reese strait line, Blue Ox Prosway are all in the $450-500 range.

I would sugesst using the calculator on the Equal-i-zer web site. Yu may find it recommends the 1200/12000 bars. That is what I have on our trailer. The dry tongue was 780. When travelling it is 1100.

The Equal-i-zer has worked very well once I got it set properly. About 12000 miles this winter. Similar last winter.

Truck and trailer look like a good match. Definitely go for 1000lb bars.

Id recommend a blue ox sway pro, works great and is built way tougher than the reese and others mentioned frequently on here.

I ordered an Equalizer 10K hitch and Lynx Leveler blocks from Dyers RV and had it the next day, I was shocked, but it was probably shipped from a regional warehouse close to my address. Great service.

I will need to locate a weight distribution hitch between now and Saturday morning between IL and OH. I would love suggestions on what and where to get something in that area of travel.

Last time I purchased a hitch, I ordered online from etrailer.com. It showed up next day. I'm only a few mile south of Kenosha, WI.

Here's a link.

It is getting close to Saturday. Maybe you could contact them yet tonight.

You might want to look at Blue Ox Sway Pro, Equalizer, Reese Dual Cam SC.
