I am serious about getting a new Mammoth Host and a new RAM Crew cab DRW one ton.

What do I need to do - if anything - to make the ride as stable as possible.

I have owned 2 TCs in the past and carried them both in a Short bed Dodges. The last one was an Alpine lite 9.5 with a slide - it was heavy and I had 19.5 tires, supersprings, air bags and a heliwig anti sway bar and I still had some sway. I carried it in a 2006 MEGA cab 2500.

The Host weights more but the truck will be a long bed DRW. Are the new OEM RAM air bags worth it for a heavy TC?

We sold the Alpine lite and went to travel trailers and finally a Toy hauler but then made the mistake of looking at the new class B plus with the Mercedes diesel and slide outs. The wife loved them but for $100,000 plus I choked and started to think about the triple slide truck campers - seems a better way to go.

325 hp and 750 lb ft in the chassis cabs with the Cummins and Aisin.

The EC 1165 was my second choice behind the Host Mammoth.

I believe the motor is detuned in the CC to 650 torque.
It is a good looking truck.
Did you look at the Eagle Cap 1165?

Wow, Bedlam that is a nice truck. If I were to go with a triple slide Host or AF, that is the truck I would put under it.

You're looking at custom work to fit a pickup bed on a chassis cab. The frame rails are straighter, higher and longer than a pickup frame. It's been done before, but it may blow your budget.

I know my Mammoth is 4712 lbs dry from Host based on my option choice. My rear axle weight is 5000+ lbs on my empty truck. Do the math on what your Mammoth will weigh dry with desired options then add your truck's empty rear weight, 60 gallons of water, your gear and tongue weight from a trailer you may tow. You will most likely be over Ram's RAWR and close to AAM's maximum axle rating. For me, there was no way I was going to purchase a new truck knowing I would start off over published ratings - I know my load will creep up in weight as we get used to the new rig and find additional things we want to bring along.

I may have additional weights tonight if the highway truck scales are closed and the scales are working.

Some of this was covered in the question you asked in the Tow Vehicle section. You will be close to maximum rear axle rating just carrying the Mammoth on a Class 3 truck. You really need to be looking at trucks with a larger capacity Dana axle (Class 4 or larger unless you choose the derated F450 pickup).

There seem to be a number of folk carrying Mammoths on 3500s. I would like to hear there opinions.

But since you bring it up - I don't care for flat beds. Can you get a normal size pickup bed in a 4500/5500 RAM? (Would not touch a Ford diesel).

I like the factory air. I get a solid warranty. It comes with its own compressor. I have a switch on the dash to put it in standard height mode. The back is raised slightly from the front. Or I hit the switch and put in alt mode. This lowers the back of the truck so it is perfectly level. I run in this mode all the time, loaded or not.

When I load the camper or 5th wheel the truck squats a bit and then the air bags kick on to bring it up to level. They don't go off of pressure but have height indicaters to know when to shut off compressor.

I'm sure this is a simplified explanation but I love them.

I have had firestones on 2 previous trucks and they were OK. This setup just feels better and stronger.

we are looking at a ram but with the 6.4 gas motor and are also trying to decide if we want the factory air option or go after market, I can not seem to find any information as too if there is any payload rating difference between the air bag set up or the standard leaf spring setup. I know the gvwr is 14000 for either but not sure about any difference in camper weights and payload rating. I don't have the numbers with me but the configuration I am looking at which is two wheel drive gas DRW crew long bed I recall has a camper rating around 5900 lbs and the payload is over 6K but nothing noted that that changes with air setup which in pictures just doesn't look very heavy duty?

I am driving what you want. see sig. Def get the factory air. It is awesome, no sag, no sway. Towing is easy with these. Just call TL. Ask me any questions. Factory GVW 14k. rear axle 9750 front 6k. Factory tires are higher than that. 900 pound feet of tq!!!!!!! Get 4.10 rear with AESIN tranny. spelling is prob off there.
I look forward to seeing your rig.

So are the factory air bags better than after market ie. firestones?

You'll end up spending the $100k when you factor in the Host plus the new truck so you best make sure SWMBO agrees.:-)

Yep - but I will have a truck day to day use - and I can take the camper off at the campsite and run around in the truck. Can't do that in the class B plus and the engine in the class B is under powered.
