Anybody still tow with an old GM?

The old GMT-900, when the Duramax and 8.1L were the kings of the hill for diesel and gas, model years 00-07....used to see a zillion of them on the road, and now none....Maybe because all the brake lines rotted here in the northeast? Or did everybody upgrade to ventilated seats with bluetooth and back up camera?

That truck is AwESOME! And mean too! That’s a lot of engine for that long ago. Did you build the engine?

Thanks! It’s a good truck. And really in good condition for its age.
It’s going to turn out nice. All the paint came off and I’m back down to the bottom layer of primer and that stuff blocked out pretty good. It will be straight when I’m done!
Only rust in the whole thing is in the worst place, around the windshield frame, from that dang visor. That will be a bit of a challenge but the only bondo or repair in it over 30+ years is a front fender dent I discovered.
It seems like it’s 90% ready to paint but the prep is never ending...

Since you have the front grill out, those square bodies look really good with the grills from the 9o and 91 square bodies (suburban and Blazers had them. The lights are on top in the grill. Pretty cool if you can find one in a bone yard.

Yes I kinda dig those too. More so on the GMCs than Chevys
If I had my way though I’d put a round headlight front clip on it. I like the 70s models better.
80s don’t seem “classic” to me because they were new when I started driving, lol.

Thanks. I would too, but those aren’t cheap and the right emblems are about impossible to find. If I come across a good 85-87ish grille I’ll do it.
In the meantime, this is what it’s got.

Looks like a jewel... The last of the good looking GM trucks.

In all that time it has been towed one time when the fuel pump went out 6 miles from our campsite. It’s been a great truck, and earned the nickname Ol’ Faithful.

I know every part on my Suburban, except the fuel pump. So I have one that I keep so that when it goes I'll just replace it. Rockauto..

My 2000 Suburban is my daily driver and tow vehicle. When I think about trading it seems like a bad idea. Everything works, it drives perfect and when I talk to friends with newer Suburbans theirs tows like mine. The engine was replaced in 2016 with 219,000 on it.

The best truck I ever had was an '06 Duramax/Allison 2500 4x4 short bed crew cab. It was a stout truck and I foolishly traded it in at 160,000 miles for a '16 Powerstroke (which has had nothing but problems). I learned my lesson about the "ooooh, look at that shiny new thing" on my own skin, unfortunately.
