Arctic Fox to Introduce a Triple-Slide Camper

I wonder if this is bringing back a modified AF1160 or a new design.
Given the weight of their other campers I wonder what this will tip the scales at.

"Among the new layouts was a prototype of a three-slide Arctic Fox truck camper floorplan that features a cathedral roof with island kitchen, dinette and rear-sofa slideouts.
”We’re really were just throwing it out there to get our dealers’ input,” Cochran said. ”They suggested that we change some small things, and we found some ways to improve it.”
The new floorplan will be available next spring. ”We had some dealers who wanted to order it, but we want to hold off until we come up with the final floorplan,” he said."

I've searched for additional AF information about the triple slide and have not found and additional detail concerning layout, capacities or weights. One member knew about the triple about month before this thread, so there must be more information floating around that may be held back due to NDA's.

It will be interesting if AF also goes with a floor over the bed rails (or stays with the floor height over the wheel wells) and which slide mechanism they will use. AF uses both the Schwintek and PowerGear slides, but I prefer the latter...

I keep getting emails about new posts to this thread...
Only problem is the new posts have nothing to do with the original topic.
I only want to read info on AF new triple slide TC... not about axle ratings and how much trucks can haul being overloaded.
Maybe I should unsubscribe too?

You can look it up easily. Dana 80s are 11,000 lb rated axles.
Manufacturers derate their rear capacity rating based on what equipment they put on the truck.
You've got to look up the actual Dana 80 axle rating, not "Ram 3500 rear axle rating".
They're extremely stout!

Funny when all I state is that my 2016 Ram handles the same camper better than my 2011 Ram. I get these type of responses.

It is far from just being just the springs. The frame is improved, the front end is improved, the axles have improvements, the brakes are bigger, the motor is stronger, the tranny is bigger. Look under a new truck sometime.

And where is this mystery 11,500 rear end rating coming from? The wheels aren't even rated that high..... To say that is the rating you can pretend is fine to use is just asinine.

I'm done. Done arguing with people with no facts or data who argue with people who have real world experience comparing the same camper on two different year trucks. Goodbye. These threads just get stupid to many times...... Unsubscribing.

Well, everyone use to weigh in at 14K on a 12,000 GVW rated dually. Now we complain about 14,200 on a 14k rated dually. LOL. perspective.

1. No we don't.
2. If we did we would be justified. The 14K rated duallys are no stronger than the 12K rated ones. Same axle ratings front and back, just less "slush" capacity that we used to get by adding up the axle ratings.

I still see lots of heavy 12 foot campers with slides on 10 to 15 year old trucks.

We can agree to disagree. But my 2016 Ram 3500 has a ton of changes compared to my old 2011 Ram 3500 and compared to my 2005 Ram 3500. All have been dually 4*4, crewcabs. My 2016 handles my 2011 AF 1150 much better..... The GVW and axle ratings increase is quite real. The AF 1150 has been the same since like early 2000s...trucks have changed big time.

If your 2016 handles your camper better it's in the springs and not because of a higher axle rating. Even the Dana 80 the older Ram 3500s had was rated at 11,500 pounds.
Anything less is just Dodge hanging a lower number on it due to the tires, springs etc. they delivered the truck with. The F450 so many people think you need came with THE SAME AXLES, a Dana 60 front and a Dana 80 rear.
If you set up your suspension properly and have the right tires, you aren't going to break the thing.
And yeah the newest ones have even stouter hardware, but I've yet to ever hear of anyone breaking a one-ton dually with a camper. Even really big ones.

I just went and got my weight slip for the AF1150. Full fuel and water and propane, Empty grey and black. Food and 4 people for a long week end. 13,340 total. GVW 14k. I'm good with that. We do not fill every storage space.

Small world, that post is mine.
One thing that AF have been is...well built but very heavy.

But if a triple slide is made up of 3 smaller slides than the monster 11 foot slide that is on my 1150 DB then maybe the weight won't be as horrible as we all fear.

Can't wait to see the final product and weight.

Your 1150 weighs 6200lb???!!!!

Payload capacity is 6200. So with all of us in the truck ( 3 people, dog, stuff) when I weighed the combo we came in at 13,700. Probably 600 pounds in the truck so I figure the camper came in at around 5,300 lbs fully load with full fluids.

I think sometimes people forget it's not just the camper you are carrying. With a crew cab pick-up it's pretty easy to get a lot of weight in the cab too.

My 811 long bed is over the weight limit of my 3500HD dually, so I can't imagine there's a truck on the market that will have the capacity to haul any triple slide behemoth AF builds.
