Awesome 6.0-Only Mechanic

My husband and I went fulltime this year, and we tow a 2013 Crusader 325RES with a '03 F250 232K with the infamous 6.0. The truck spent 4 out of 5 months in the shop this summer, went thru 3 "certified diesel mechanics" in that time and approx $13,000. We got it back from the last shop and a week later, no start yet again. In desperation I called the owner of Super Duty Service in Grain Valley, MO simply for advice as we were in New Orleans, LA. When I told Anthony the owner, our story and what had been done on the truck, HE JUMPED INTO HIS TRUCK AND DROVE 800 MILES TO NEW ORLEANS TO FIX OUR TRUCK! Not only did he point out what the other mechanics had done wrong or had ignored or had overrepaired, but he gave us lessons on how to maintain the truck that were contrary to what we had been told by the supposed "experts". Anthony wouldn't take any money from us for his trouble, he said we had paid enough to mechanics for this year. He also understands the needs of us RVers as he has done RV transport for years with his '06 6.0 that now has 798K on it. Just wanted to let our fellow RVers know, if you got a 6.0 with some issues I highly recommend getting it to Super Duty Service in Grain Valley, MO if at all possible.

Yeah Troy, don't think Larry's van would transport to many 5er's. But the drivers seat was replaced. Uh reminds me of America's obesity problems but that is purely speculation on my part :W

The web address initially provided to the Ford enthusiast site didn't work.. But I was able to find it with some searching.

I didn't read it all as it was 51 pages yesterday. I did read enough that I believe the story.

If this is a tall tale, then there has been a LOT of effort and planning put into it.

I believe it.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome. Husband and I have been fulltiming it since June. He's a traveling jobsite supervisor, overseeing Home Depot bathroom remodels this year. Besides the truck woes, we have loved loved the fulltiming life. I wandered on this forum as, obviously, we can use some roadside insurance beyond what our auto insurance provides lol. so i was checking it out.

The funniest thing is we are all too jaded to believe a story like this, me included lol. Yeah, $13,000 on a $10,000 truck. Ridiculous. At the beginning, it was $4,000 in Detroit for oil pump, 1 injector, oil cooler and some other misc stuff. 6 hours after we picked it up from Detroit mech, all the injectors shatter and blow out of the heads in the middle of PA. Insurance co and PA mechanic blamed it on bad diesel - full of water and dirt proved thru lab analysis. PA mechanic had it for 3 months replacing all injectors, 2nd oil pump, FICM, turbo, fuel pump, hoses, all while we were paying for a rental car and RV storage in the middle of gas country PA ($20/day). 3 times he told us the truck would be ready on Xday, we would drive the 6 hours back from MA where my husband was working only to be told when we got there that the truck wouldn't start, then we'd have to drive back to MA. This was an insurance co recommended shop. We now think he either had no clue what he was doing or was just a shyster. Not only did it cost us $10,000 in lost wages, gas, lodging, RV storage and car rental, but the PA mechanic handed us a bill for $2485 when the truck was finally done for parts over and above what the insurance company approved ($9,000). If we knew what we know now, we would have trailered the truck out to Anthony in MO and he would have rebuilt the entire engine for less. The truck was finally done the same day we were expected in NOLA, so we raced down. We got a few weeks out of it, then dead again. We took it to a local diesel mechanic, the truck sat at his shop for 8 days, never got touched. Guy had no clue what to do with it. That's when I went on the forum. We just had no $ left to spend on this truck and we were desperate. We had been praying for 4 months over this truck and to us, Anthony was sent straight from heaven. Believe or not.

Why not? Could happen.

I was out camping a few years back, camper next to us was having issues with her truck. A single lady with 3 kids camping in a small tent trailer had spun her flex plate on her 1/2 ton. I made a few calls to a near by town (3hr round trip), located a flex plate. Went to pick it up and after hearing about this lady's plight, the wrecker gave us the flex plate no charge! Drove back to campsite with the help of a few other campers we pushed the truck to a nearby low ditch. Had the truck straddle the ditch to give me enough room to get under and pull the tranny. Removed the broken flex plate re-installed the tranny and she was able to drive home later that weekend. The woman her kids and the good people that helped pushed the truck and my family got together that night and a hell of a party! Made some new camping friends that weekend!
Always willing to help anyone stranded, cause someday it might be me and would welcome any assistance.

There are plenty of good people around the world...just good news doesn't travel as well as the bad stuff!

What does it matter if it is a tall tale or not. It is a nice read and if the guy was hauling an RV down to LA then his costs were covered. If he chose to not take money because he has a love for Ford trucks or whatever (see his wife's FB page and the pink cake) then good for him.

At the end of the day he is not profiting from those of us who believe this story as we are not sending him cash for his good deeds. But if I had that truck / engine and I had similar problems I'd give him a shout.

Thanks to the OP for sharing.

In these times it is really nice to read stories like this where someone does something at their own expense to help someone in need. It's a shame so many shops and stealerships charge (high) prices for procedures that are done improperly or don't fix the problem. Hopefully this shop gets more business from people reading her story.

I myself had a 03 Excursion 6.0L that had several issues (cold start, smoke, surging, oil leaks) and I took it to the nearby dealership that worked on several other Fords I owned. They gave a couple of vague diagnosis starting with EGR valve (replaced) and injectors but seemed like they were just shooting in the dark. I went to the forums and tried the Archoil fuel/oil additives that improved start up but didn't cure any other symptoms. I then went back to the forums and got many more possible answers (throwing parts) and decided to searched for a 6.0L specialist and found one I felt comfortable communicating with about 140 miles away (WI) and drove it out there. The owner took my engine apart and found many issues with parts, sensors and hoses. Interesting the common failure components (FICM, oil cooler and head gaskets) were good. I like the OP ended up spending more than the truck is worth but I replaced everything bad with Ford parts and upgraded a few others and this truck runs really good now.

Congrats to the OP for getting a long overdue solution to their problems. Some other enthusiast forums maintain a list of member recommended shops but I could not find any in other forums except sponsors. With all the 6.0l's out there it would be nice if someday there was a place where owners could look up shops based on their reviews and location.

Possible, and a great story but just a bit unbelievable. I hate to be so untrusting, but this guy's donation of so much of his time and direct/indirect expenses are beyond the normal actions of a really generous guy. Part of me really wants to believe it.

Here's my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/valerie.s.clayton so you can see I'm a real person, and I post about Anthony's shop. Really great guy, we had him and his wife stay down here for 2 days after the truck was fixed just to hang out. I hate to fill up this forum with tons of boring truck tech stuff but suffice to say we had about $10,000 worth of unnecessary work done on the truck, plus were told to put the wrong tranny fluid in the truck, the wrong coolant, had the high pressure oil pump replaced 3x in 4 months because no one found the cracked quick-connect fitting on the high pressure braided oil hose under the valve cover. Lots more detailed info on that Ford Trucks thread plus lots of other good info on the 6.0.

www.sdutys.com is the shop, his phone number is there. I can hardly believe it either, I wouldn't believe it if it hadn't happened to us! LOL But its true. I had posted on ford-trucks.com forum about our troubles, the thread is here http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1265694-all-injectors-blow-out-at-the-same-time.html. Its a long thread but Anthony (username: run6.0run) read our story and asked me to call him and he ended up coming down. He still hauls RVs on occasion and was supposed to haul up to Nova Scotia but ended up asking for a LA haul because of us. The forum members were so touched that he wouldn't take any money they started sending him $ themselves. 100% true story.
