Awning mildew

My awning stays wet from humidity here in Texas when rolled up and always has mildew on it. Is there any thing that I can spray on it after I clean it to prevent the mildew?

After cleaning spray with natural bleach solution (peroxide) mixed in water. This kills the mildew and doesn't hurt the awning. Have been using this for years. Use a garden sprayer for application. Also use it in the shower and no mildew there either. We buy the store brand (public or Winn Dixie).

The mildew is and issue but after I clean my awning, the next rain seeps into the roll and the dirty black stripes are back.

Fortunately they do not effect the amount of shade the awning gives.

Its crazy the amount of water that can seep into a rolled up awning.

Has anyone used that "Never Wet" spray that Rust-Oleum puts out.

That stuff is pretty crazy.

I bought this combo and it worked so well that I ended up buying a gallon of each.

magic eraser is great, but moves a lot quicker with a magic eraser mop instead of the eraser. Larger surface area and easy reach using the mop

Quick Google search came up with this:
Mildew Preventive Spray
Link is to Home Depot, but is also available at Amazon.
For $20, might be worth a shot.

To answer your question, I dont know of anything that you can apply as a preventative measure but if you find something, let us know what it is!

I use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on my awning. Make the Eraser wet, but not dripping and simply wipe a small section (don't scrub, just wipe). Follow up with a dry towel. Rinse the Eraser and do the next small section. Repeat until the entire awning is done. Not only will it marvelously remove everything black, and bugs, and gunk and stains, it leaves a coating on the awning that prevents mold from coming back. Don't rinse the awning with clean water after wiping. Just wipe it dry. Use the Eraser to get the black off. You will need to wash your awning only 1 time a year, except for bugs that get rolled up inside sometimes, or leaves that fall on the top.

If you can reach the top, do the same with the top. It will not get the black mold any more for several months. When you notice a few spots, do it again. Like I said, I do mine once a year, in the Spring, first time we use the camper and it stays looking good all summer. There's something in the Mr. Clean that just simply stops mold from coming back.

Repeat, do not scrub with the Erase. Wipe with it and then follow up drying with a dry towel. Works wonderful!

Don't leave it rolled up. Or, at least unroll it from time to time.
