My wife and I went to place a down payment on a TT today.. The price on the trailer was $9999, we wanted to add, WD hitch and brake controller, rv cover, and full screen room for the awning. Want to take a guess how much the total price quoted was after transport, dealer fees, etc... $15,200!!!!!

$2600 of it was dealer prep and transport and there was another $300 doc fee on top of that !!!

A lot of back and forth with what I thought was not a great manager and we but it down to $13500 OTD, still a good $1500-$2000 higher then we planed for..so we walked.. I just felt like they were taking advantage of me, they keep saying how they are not making any money on this deal, and that the $9999 was a loss leader and msrp was really $15,695. They even showed me the invoice, but I know that in the car biz (which I was in for 15 years) that at I voice there was still a good deal of money to make on the car (holdback, advertising, dealer cash etc).. BTW invoice was $11,000 something. I don't know but I just felt I was being lied to..

Do you think the fees were excessive ?? I have never purchased an rv before was I wrong about the invoice ??

Thanks

Some folks buy the best deal and adjust to it. Others buy only what they want and will pay extra for it.

I feel like an abused spouse going back to there lover, but I may buy the unit from them any way.. After looking online for hours I can't find anything else that fits my exact needs like this unit., for example found one with the same floor plan, but missing the 2 way fridge (just had a simple door fridge instead), or the bed was a couch in some, etc. Plus the internet prices were all much higher. Then what I'm paying for this one.

Is there such a thing as a good rv dealer ?? Besides a one off mom and pop store ?? This one is part of a larger chain and I have never heard great things about them.. However they have the unit I want.

Yes - I'm sure the invoice they gave to you was what they paid for it. More like they pronted it themselves. Glad you got out of there.

I am sitting in Bakersfield. I got blindsided when I came to pick the RV up and they informed me I have to go Nevada to take delivery to avoid paying CA sales tax. They never mentioned this when i bought it, i got the impression that since it was being exported into Canada, where i have to pay sales tax, it was exempt. They never mentioned this when they sold it, they were so eager to make a sale. At least they are not charging me to haul it to Nevada, but i am stuck with a few nights motel in the interim. I also had them install a grab handle and they botched that. Its crooked at the top, but since the holes are now in there, I have to live with it. I have an old one of the same type at home. All i can do is experiment with widening the holes in that to see if i can compensate a bit, or abandon one screw

Dealers are your worst enemy.

So what does the 13% vehicle sales tax in Ontario go for?

Or will it go down to one or two percent now that the whole Province doesn't have to kick in to the "feed Rob Ford" fund anymore? :@

were you expecting those to be free? but the dealer prep and processing is theft.

He wasn't expecting it to be free... he was complaining about thousands of dollars of dealer prep fees. Did you read his complaint?

Walking away from a deal you do not feel comfortable with is always the right thing to do no matter what you are buying. If in a couple of days you find it was a sweet deal, you can always go back.

I make it clear when I am dealing with any product; what it is I want, including options and that the number they give me includes taxes, fees etc.

I tell them upfront that the number we agree upon is the number I write on the check; anything else come out of their pocket and I only have one check.

It cuts though a lot of BS right away.

It does not matter how they get to a final price. The total amount is what I compare with other dealers for best price.
