Compare the prices for a new Colorado with almost any "full size" truck. Not much difference in similarly equipped trucks. GM is doing a good job filling that small niche, let them have it.

A friend of mine has a 5-cylinder 2012 Colorado with over 200,000 miles on it. No issues other than normal maintenance items, and it looks and runs great.

I thought the car based trucks like the VW pickup or Subaru Brat/Baja would be a success, but none of them had sales that took off.

While that is true we are not privy to the market research or business plan for any OEM unless we are way up the food chain. If Ford management decided that the data indicated they not go after this segment in the U.S. we are in no position to contradict this decision.

That's something the manufacturer has weigh: Do I introduce a model that may undermine my other model sales resulting in little net gain just to get into a popular market segment or should I risk keeping the existing models and try to sell them in this segment?

The numbers all seem very predictable, and very good overall. I just cannot figure out why the outdated Tacoma is outselling the modern Tundra, especially with low fuel prices. I also predict that the Colorado will overtake the Tacoma this year.
