BigFoot Truck Campers

Has anyone bought a 2011 or newer Bigfoot Truck Camper since the new company started up? Was wondering if they have had any concerns or issues? I called the Bigfoot Company and it seems like the same good bunch of people running the company today as it was in the past .

The insurance company has now wrote off my Bigfoot truck camper. I didn't know it but I guess I had replacement insurance so I get to order a new 2014 to replace my 2009 Bigfoot. So the insurance company is paying me what a 2014 Bigfoot Camper with the same options is worth today. Cannot beat that deal.

I am seriously thinking of ordering a new Bigfoot 25C10.4 or 25C10.6 truck camper. I personally like the 25C10.4 model better but still have time to change my mind. Never had a dry bath before or a dually with a long box to haul it around.

Tomorrow if I get time, I am planning to take a look at the Lance and Northern Lite campers. I found a dealer 2 hours away with several campers. Bigfoot doesn't have any models with slides and I keep thinking a slide would be nice.

Yessir, they had some 3000 models several years ago that didn't have the traditional Bigfoot clamshell design which allowed for the implementation of a slide.

There is an older thread here which shows a 30c1002

They have one at the lot in Phoenix at Tomscamperland. I stopped and looked at it when I was on vacation and it is massive in person.

Paul,

IMHO, 10 years from now the 2012 Bigfoot's value wouldn't be much different than any unit you could order at present "with the exception of a unit that has a slide MAYBE". With that said, the holdover 12 Bigfoot, a new pontoon & not having to buy a new truck...........well, I'd be hard pressed to go any other route than the one you have chosen!

As for me regarding the Bigfoot vs a Lance or Artic Fox that has a slide....... well I guess I'm just going to have to take a trip west & look them over in person "there are virtually no TC dealers in the Midwest". I do like the calm shell design of the Bigfoot, But the extra room of a Lance or A Fox with a slide adds another twist in the equation. Like others have mentioned, I do believe that moving parts & pieces are weak points or possible problem area's, but without looking at them in person, I just can't make a informed decision. I also have to see how user friendly the interior of a slide unit is when the slides aren't deployed too.
Decisions, Decisions!

Well congratulations with your purchase, Hopefully it will serve you & your family well for many many years.

JMHO, they are probably nice campers, but it would be nice if they came with a slide-out and a propane generator as an option, so they would keep up with the competition. The two shortbed campers I'm looking at (Lance 855S and the AF 811) both have generators, decent slide-out, and decent capacity for the tanks. The AF has this oddball side step (the Fox Landing) that folds up, so the scissor steps are not an issue.

Disclaimer: I've not seen a Bigfoot model personally, but have visited their website on occasion.

Just curious, I've only seen pictures of the "Fox Landing", so I'm unsure what you meant in your statement regarding it? From browsing thru the pictures on their web site, it looks rather nice, BUT in real life I might have a different opinion. Please elaborate.

Thank You, Bruce

The factory is about 5 minutes down the road from us. The tours are very cool and the clamshell design sets them apart in terms of integrity and being weather tight etc. kinda like two boats joined in the middle. I was not a fan of the slide models but definetely like the 10.4 and 10.6 floor plans. Both gave optional generators. I don't see a truck camper in my future but if did I would be looking at the Bigfoot or the Arctic Fox 990, but for different reasons.

Good luck and happy trails.

A few years ago I drove my friend's Bigfoot camper from Portland, OR to Santa Fe, NM. My friend was getting married in Santa Fe and wanted his camper for the honeymoon but didn't want to drive it to the wedding. Anyway, after driving his Bigfoot for about a week, it was my opinion that compared to my Lance of the same year, his Bigfoot had much nicer cabinets, flooring, bed, window shades, etc. On the other hand, the basic features such as refrigerator, cooktop, oven, microwave, sink, shower, water heater, grey tank, black tank, etc. were pretty much the same as my Lance. And the Bigfoot with full basement was so much taller than my Lance that it needed a dangerous accordion style step feature which felt like I was going to die every time I climbed it.

All things considered, I would rather have my "Chevrolet" Lance than his "Rolls Royce" Bigfoot, especially since my Lance cost about half of his Bigfoot.

Just my opinion.

Happy Camping.

They are all nice campers but to me the Bigfoot stands out as being a bit different as it is a non-slide camper. That wouldn't work for us as we go off camping to often with uncertain weather and sometimes end up spending significant time in the camper. I've heard nothing but good about the clam shell construction.

As others have noted the tank capacity is lower too. Again, depending on how you use it this may not be a problem and they are not small capacities. I'm assuming it has duel batteries (I couldn't tell from the web site). If it didn't that would be a show stopper for me..

Good luck. It's a nice position to be able to make this choice. I've never heard of an ability to get a replacement cost policy on a camper. I wonder if I could find that around here (and what it would cost)

Not that is makes much difference but I would take the same Bigfoot, keep the truck, and after living on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean for my whole life I would look for a "real" boat 🙂

I have a pontoon boat and spend a lot of time with the whole family on the lake. It's a lot of fun and would be a great boat to tow as they are very light.

One of the important factors in choosing my AF 990 was tank capacities. I like to boondock have the option of staying somewhere for a week or more without worrying about water or sewer. I was very surprised at how many campers have tiny tanks. Fine if you always camp with hook-ups but if that was the case, I would have a bigger trailer for comfort. What ever you choose it will be a nice unit.

hey Paul - interesting story! I'd be headed down the camper and boat route myself, for two reasons. The first is a long box dually is a big, big truck when the camper is not on it. The second is that I just don't believe a TC should cost $60K. Both personal opinions - good luck with what you do!

As of Friday May 15, 2014 this is where my thinking was as far as the new Truck & Camper:

After looking at several Truck Campers and too hopefully get the most out of this purchase I have decided to upgrade my truck from a SRW, Short Box to a dually and long box. I found a GM dealership that will give me what I want for a trade in, so it looks like I will be getting another Chevy 3500HD Crew Box Diesel. Only decision left now is just how many options to order. Could be 6 weeks delivery if I have to order it.

I finally got my quote and best price from a Bigfoot Dealership today in B.C. where Bigfoot Campers are made. See email below: This quote is for a Bigfoot 25C10.4 loaded. "Paul as requested the delivery on the camper is 10 weeks because it is a factory order we will require a 25% non refundable deposit at the time of order. The camper with all the options as per my last email the price is $52,591.00 plus 5% GST delivered to the Alberta border total $55,220.55. The Torklift tie downs installed would be $960.00 plus tax total $1008.00. Torklift Fast Guns Stainless Steel plus Locks $725.44 plus tax total $761.72. Torklift Stable Loads installed $550.00 plus tax $ 577.50 total. Solar panel 150 watt $1,052.98 plus tax for a total $1,105.63. So your total with taxes would be $58673.40 For the Camper, Tie downs, Fast guns. Stable loads and solar panel installed. You may want to upgrade to 2 Deep cycle 6 volt Batteries which would give you 220 amp hours of power. Cost $375.00 plus tax."

Yesterday I got my best price quote email back from the Lance truck camper dealer in Ontario. “The 2015 Lance 1052 in the showroom, the best price I can do is $49,950.00 + PDI $990.00 plus 13% tax ($6,622.00)for a total of $57,562.00 and it comes with a 5 year extended warranty. For the 2014 Lance 1181 camper, the best price I can do is $49,210.00 + PDI $990.00 + 13% tax ($6526.00) for a total of $56,726.00 and it comes with a 5 year extended warranty."

The Arctic Fox 992 is $46,000.00 plus 13% tax ($5980.00) for a grand total of $51,980.00 plus PDI.

The Bigfoot has no slide, the Lance 1052 has two slides and the Arctic Fox 992 and Lance 1181 both have one slide. All campers are loaded.

They are all excellent truck campers and I believe anyone could be extremely happy with any one of them.

The question is which one?

In case anyone is wondering why I am looking at close to a $60,000.00 campers is because this is a once in a lifetime event. I will not get this chance again. In 2009 I paid $38,000.00 total for my Bigfoot truck camper which was destroyed this winter. Unknown to me I had replacement insurance on the camper. So they had to replace it with the dollar value of a new 2014 Bigfoot camper. The check I received was for $53,386.85 from the insurance company.

On Saturday morning May 17th, 2014 I believe I had made a decision (Lance 1052) and the Wife and I went out to breakfast to discuss it. On the way to breakfast we stopped to look at the Princecraft Pontoon boats.

During breakfast the Wife suggested we make one more offer to the Bigfoot dealership about the new 2012 25C9.4 truck camper they had which was the same as our old 2009 Bigfoot. So I sent an email and offered $500.00 more than was debated before. Well they accepted.

Now we had to make a serious decision. Purchase a new 2012 Bigfoot camper loaded for $30,500.00 plus tax which was the same as our old Bigfoot or order a new 2014 or 2015 (Lance, Arctic Fox or Bigfoot).

At the Pontoon Boat store they offered us a very nice boat for $23,000.00 (we had been their last year and our home is on waterfront).

So I could purchase a new 2012 Bigfoot Camper and Pontoon boat for $53,500.00 plus tax.

So I think we have decided to allow our insurance company to pay for our new Camper and Boat and I believe that`s going to be the end of this story. Except now I don't need a dually, long box anymore.

Your thoughts:

Paul

Paul,

Just wondering how the shopping for your new truck camper was going? I plan to retire in a couple of years & will be buying a new truck camper too. I'm very very interested to hear what you bought & why, plus what all you have learned.

Thanks, Bruce

I believe its down to 3 campers now, Lance, Arctic Fox, and Bigfoot.

I finally got a best price quote from all 3 dealers now so I will share that will you over the weekend.
