Black Tank - Bumper Issue

I have a 9 foot truck camper and the black tank is horribly positioned. It sits directly on the bumper when it is flush in the bed. Initially I damaged the tank because when I stepped into the camper it went down slightly and smooshed the corner a bit.

After repairing it, I put the camper on 2 by 4s in the bed, which so far has worked but I am still nervous as it hovers only an inch above the bumper and I am afraid that too much weight on the back end or too much moving around when I am in transit might cause it to happen again.

By the way, my real issue is that my tie down things are on the bumper, so I can't remove it. I heard something about an extender, but I am not sure how that would affect my ability to tie down my camper. I would have to get different tie downs in the back which would be hard on my budget.

Any advice? Anyone else ever have this problem?

I had that problem with the first camper I had.It was on a 97 F-250,I found that you can lower the bumper with holes already provided as it was designed so it could be lowered. You may want to check this out.

A sheet of plywood on your 2" X 4"s would provide both better bottom support of the camper and the insurance spacing.

+1 what mkirsch said. Something is wrong. Your camper shouldn't flex that much.

Get a couple rear frame mounted tie downs from Torklift. Then you can do what ever you like with your bumper. But if you have a inch clearance with the 2x4's in the bed you probably won't have any problem. JMHO

If your camper flexes an inch just putting weight in it or going down the road, it's in pretty bad shape and probably shouldn't be out on the road. My camper is pretty cheaply built and I am a big guy, but the floor doesn't flex like that, even in the overhang.

In many instances it helps us to help you if you fill out the signature so we know what make and model truck camper and truck you have.
