Over the last 20 years I have posted 1,000's of photo links on the RV.net TC forum. Everything from how to disassemble a Rancho 9000 shock to vacation photos. All those photos were hosted on Fototime.com. I never had a single problem with Fototime in 20 years, but they are all gone now. A couple of weeks ago Fototime ceased operations for mostly unexplained reasons (possible due to the big French sever farm fire). So, if you are looking at one of my posts and the photo is "unavailable", it ain't RV.net and it ain't your computer; it's a broken photo link that will never come back. Sorry folks.

I don't much care for it ether. While when they removed the button I came up with a fairly easy work around (as posted above earlier) I've long since decided to have all my images stored locally (with cloud backup) and just use Flickr for a small collection of images that I share on websites such as this one.

Sadly the underlying issue with online image storage is not so much the cost of storing it but the cost of the bandwidth to serve up those images around the world. Simply embedding a linked image in a very popular web page can generate tons of traffic for the server hosting the image!

Have you checked out the costs of server hosting lately?

What I do:

- log onto my flickr account and navigate to photostream
- click on picture I'd like to share elsewhere
- the picture will display and on the bottom right corner there is a down arrow with a line under it, clicking there will make a popup of image sizes, select view all sizes
, "
- for me it will display 12 different size links, "medium 500" works well for rvnet, click on that one

- when the picture displays hover over it and right click with your mouse and select "copy image location"

- then simply paste (control V) into the photo link dialog on rvnet.

It took me a while to figure the "cut off all before and after img" part. The user should not have to do that. There should be a "Direct URL Link" option. I'm going to make that suggestion to Flickr.

So, I will be upgrading to the $60/yr version of Flickr soon and see how it goes.

Losing a picture hosting site and association with past posts with no way easy way to recover is tragic. The amount of shared info that has been lost cannot be replaced.

Did you start an account on flickr or free trail?
I'm currently using smugmug which is 7 monthly or 55 annually, no free accounts. I have duplicate free account with Imgur. Both of these mirror original photobucket account, which most have heard that story.
Fortunately photobucket changed thier policy and older pictures at least show, likely temporary (unless like many account was deleted in response to pb fiasco). I look at thier attempt to regain trust like someone jumping off a cliff and trying to swim back to the ledge.
Thankful old photos show but do not use to post new pictures.
Some of my older posts where thread wasn't locked Ive update urls- older locked threads show until photobucket closes.

Either service offers trial period to check features which are simular. One of the things that attracted me to smugmug is part of the url contains original file name, easier to relocate.

Issue obviously is on forum posts if host site is changed (site closes) the linked photo url needs to be changed. On older locked threads that's impossible, and threads that are not locked, it to say the least painful to update the picture urls.

Colorado is always great. We were there 10-20 Sept 2020. Aspens were about 80% when we left for Moab.

It's not the fastest way to do it, but I use the share photo button. Up pops a link. I select BBCode and the correct size. Then I copy the link,
I post the link directly to the posting page.

The Colorado elevation must not have bothered you.

My wife and I took the Road King to Colorado from Oregon for a 2 week road trip in late sept. The leaves were changing colors in the higher elevations.
