Carrying a scooter

Hello all,
Looking for opinions on carrying a scooter on a truck with a 9.5 foot camper.
Carry on front (need to address blocked headlights) or on rear (have a rear entry door and camper is 1.5 feet past rear of truck.
What say you?

Thanks, Kevin

Boatycall, I assume you unload the scooter each time you pop out the slide?

We used to carry our 1985 Honda Elite 250cc on our Class C's rear hitch receiver. We had a custom carrier for the scooter which used an Acme gear drive to move the scooter up and down for easy loading and unloading. It worked really well. You could felt the weight when driving but my upgraded rear spring pack did a good job to compensate for it. A negative was it got pretty dirty back there with all the road dust the RV kicked up.

Eventually we went to hauling two maxi-scooters in an open utility trailer and this worked better. However, it still got pretty dirty with road dust etc. and of course, it was still susceptible to theft given the open trailer.

Finally, we bought a used, enclosed cargo trailer and I modified the inside with e-tracks to accommodate our two maxi's (Burgman 400 and Silverwing). We love this solution and pulling the 3,000 lb. trailer behind our set-up is no problem. We also get to carry a lot more gear (big campstove, loungers, outside tables, well equipped toolbox etc.) with the cargo trailer so we love this setup.

I used a rack on the rear hitch for a while. It worked I guess. But I built a 5x10 little trailer and it's been the best thing ever! It's got 3500 pound axle and 15" wheels. I've built sides, covers, etc. Hauls two buddy scooters, sometimes dirtbike, kayaks, firewood, generators, grill, etc.
And if the camper is on the truck I can hook it up to the Jeep if I need to make a Home Depot run or anything like that. Been great for me!

Recently installed a front hitch to carry the motorcycle. The transmission definitely is running hotter. Something to consider.

I don't normally do this, (refer to a previous post) but we just had this same topic come up just a couple weeks ago on this post.

I carry mine on the back quite regularly. I wouldn't on the front for a couple reasons... blocks wind to the radiator, and catches all bugs. It's easier to clean a grill than a scooter.

I added two eye-bolts to an open mount hole on my jacks for bike straps. Kinda over-did it on the straps, but the road I had to go down sucked and I didn't want to chance anything.

Front receiver hitch with a hitch mounted carrier works fine, as does towing behind on a utility trailer.
