Better buy those Mopars soon as the only good thing about them, the 100k warranty is gone in 2016.

FCA Gutting Warranty

Guess you have to do something to shore up the lowest margins and profits in the business.

I know VW kicked up their warranty duration when they had public perception issues about quality. Once they proved they could produce a car that wasn't bug ridden, they dropped the warranty coverage to previous levels. Hyundai also used that method in selling their cars.

Perhaps the quality of FCA vehicles has risen to level that such long warranties across the entire line no longer are a marketing benefit and just extra cost that does not need to be incurred by the manufacturer?

IIRC: My 2005 Ford had a 5 year/60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty but emissions equipment was longer and my 2003 VW had a 3 year/36,000 mile bumper to bumper to bumper warranty and a longer 5 year/60,000 mile power train warranty.

Matches the Ford warranty. Ford has had the 5 year/60,000 mile power train warranty on their diesels for some time and some people don't realize it. Including some on this forum

Just out of curiousity where did you get this miss-information?

From the Ford 2014 Model Year Warranty Guide:

Your vehicle’s direct injection diesel engine and certain engine
components are covered during the PowerStroke Diesel Engine Coverage
Period, which lasts for five years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs
first. The following parts are covered during this extended coverage
period: the engine, cylinder block, heads and all internal parts, intake and exhaust manifolds, timing gear, harmonic balancer, valve covers, oil pan and pump, water pump, fuel system (excluding fuel lines, fuel tank and frame mounted fuel conditioning module sometimes referred to as the frame mounted pump/filter/water separator), high pressure lines, gaskets and seals, glow plugs, turbocharger, two-stage turbocharger assembly, turbocharger actuator, powertrain control module, engine control module, high pressure fuel injection pump assembly, electronic driver unit, injectors, injection pressure sensor, fuel rail pressure sensor, high pressure oil regulator, exhaust back pressure regulator and sensor, exhaust pressure sensor, manifold pressure sensor, intake air temperature sensor, crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, accelerator switch.

I do believe the whole idea behind lessoning the warranties is to get people to trade more often.
No reason to bash any brands...I like what I like and everyone can like whatever brand they prefer.

Personally I don't care how much warranty something has as long as it doesn't break down. From a marketing standpoint it is not worth the dollars to them so they are dumping it. I know the loyal fans/haters always try to make more of anything than it really is. The motivating factor for all auto makers is profit. Don't spill any kool-aid on yourself, it leaves an ugly stain.

I guess my experience is substantially different than yours.

let's see. 6 GM vehicles over the years, each one went 150K + miles, NONE ever were in the dealers shop for any warranty or repair work.

My Chysler's another matter. every one ended up with major warranty repairs, and expensive work needed after the warranty expired. and I got rid of all of them before 75K miles.

And GM will continue the 100K warranty on it's diesel power train.

And so will Ram, the "Gutting of the warranty" is in line with GM and Fords gas engine coverage. The diesel's are still getting the 5 year 100K coverage.

BTW my Dad a former GM engineer only owned one GM/Chevy pick up in his life for a reason. His truck of choice was Ford until he bought a 1991 Ram 350 CTD, which he still owns and drives to this day! Now he does own a 2014 Caddy one of many.

"What would be interesting is to see what each mfg has for expenses for warranty cost/vehicle sold. But I'll bet that is pretty highly guarded info. "

Actually, the info is available. I've looked at it several times. But what I found is at least a year old. And it's also a little difficult to figure out.

The link takes you to a site with a serious, long discussion. Probably because of the name of the site. But I think the info you want to see is contained in a couple of charts at the end.

To my uneducated eye, it appears that Dodge/Chrysler/Fiat is trying to get their per vehicle warranty costs more in line with GM/Ford.

We were lucky enough to camp next to a retired Cummins engineer that almost full times in class A. He did some of the back room testing and data collecting when Chrysler wanted go to 100,000 way back in late 90's or early 2000's. Chrysler basically wanted to know how the Cummins would hold up from a dollar and cents point of view.

When presented with the data, Chrysler thought Cummins data was wrong as it was to good. Well, all except the fuel pump and a few other things.

Now I'll sit back and let the attacking begin since I know most here loathe the Toyota more than any Chevy,Dodge or Ford.

The only thing I loathe about the 1/2t Toyota is the 3/4t price. I keep my vehicles long enough that resale value is very low on my list, so I really don't care what others think about them as long as they do what I want.

I've never read any problem this OP has had with Dodge. I bet the farm he's never owned one. That would leave one to believe he is breaking the rules of RV.net.

How strong are these rules? Who knows....

If the rules were enforced all you would been banned when bashing my 6.0 PSD repeatedly. I see plenty of members poking sticks yet crying foul when their choice gets the same treatment. You do realize that the more you react, the the more attention you bring to the post you so oppose?

I've owned a Ford, Dodge and Chevy by the way. All had minor issues but nothing major. So why turn to the Enemy? Resale value of course. Beside my current tow vehicle, I flip all my cars in less than three years so resale value is big for me. Also cause in my personal opinion I like the physical appearance better. Don't care what people say about it, I only pull 3k pounds and then need it to commute daily.

So there said it. I like Toyota although Ford Chevy and Dodge as well depending on the model. ??
