Correct Truck

I am looking to purchase a Grand Design Momentum TH 376th. The GVWR is 20,000lbs. The truck I am looking to use for this is the 2017 F350 dually with the diesel. Do have enough truck once loaded with golf cart and necessary camping essentials?

To OP, any one of the three latest generation duallies will handle the trailer you are looking at. Pick the one your DW likes the best, and you will be a happy man.

Thanks Cummins12V98,

Your response is pretty much what I was already thinking. Was hoping to hear that someone else has been there and done that. I had not thought about adding the Bilstien shocks, but sounds like a good idea.

My current toy hauler is squatting the truck about 3 inches in the rear and I am noticing my headlights are a little high. Going with the Momentum would/should squat the truck a little more. The added pin weight had me more concerned than the gearing requirements.

Would adding the Bilstiens now make a noticeable difference over the stock setup?

Thanks again,

Find one one with the Aisin tranny! Then anyone of the three ratio's will cover that load.

On edit: I see you already own the truck and made the mistake of not getting one with an Aisin tranny!!!!! For the RAM to play equally with the other two, it needs the optional Aisin tranny.

If you do more towing than running around empty get 4:10's if the other way around get 3:42's. 3:42's will tow in 5th the same as 4:10'S in 6th.

Advantage of 3:42's is a freeway cruiser bobtail! 80MPH is only 1750 RPM. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

The RV you mention has a GVWR of 20,000#. If fully loaded you will be pushing 30,000# combined. Most likely will not NEED bags but a set of Bilstien's and bags set to 30# with RV attached will make for an even better ride.

Your trucks GCVWR is 27,300# with 3.73's. If you had 4.10's it would increase to 30,300#. Best thing is to tow it and decide if the gears need to be changed. Not the PERFECT gearing but I see ZERO issues.

I towed a combined 29K with a 11 HO RAM with 3.42's, only issue was getting the load rolling on a grade. Towed in 5th with same rpm as 4.10 in 6th. Your 16 is physically more capable than my 11 was.

Buy the rV hook up and see what you think. I am betting you will be very happy.

Question ( mostly to RAM owners, but everyone else are welcome to join in).

Looking at possibly a Momentum 376TH. Do you think my 2016 RAM DRW with a 68 RE transmission and 3.73 rears is adequate for this unit.

1st. Would I need air bags to keep everything level?

2nd. Would I need to change out rear to 4.10 gears?

Thanks in advance,

I own this setup.

2016 F350 diesel dually.
2016 Grand Design 385TH tri-axle.

I have the Trailair Kingbox with inflatable tire and shock absorber (must have).
I use the Reese Elite 25K hitch mounted in my bed. I suggest you get some airbags on the dually as they made a huge positive difference for me.

I sometimes need to look in my mirrors just to remind me I'm towing!

Awesome uphill...great braking...no sway.

I am positive I was WAY overweight last summer driving from MN to MA with zero regrets and zero hassle!

The 2017 F350 would be a great truck to pull your Momentum, but the best truck would be the Ram 3500!! Just kidding, your Ford will do you good...darn I had a hard time saying that...lol!
