Of all the features on our trailer (which are not many, since it is so small), I would have to say that the shower is the key to the whole thing for us. Having a hot shower in the middle of a howling wilderness, and going to bed really clean every night, is absurdly luxurious.

Yes, the shower is cramped. Yes, we take extreme Navy showers. But we often say it's like a talking dog -- the miracle is not how well he talks, but that he talks at all.

If we did not have a shower, we certainly would not boodock or dry camp, and we probably never would have gotten into RVing at all.

Yep! Even when backpacking we had a solar shower. Occasionally we'd have to warm some water on the camp stove but it was worth it.

I put a memory foam topper on the factory included mattress, and now I sleep great. Add in the shower, even though it is not a long, luxurious thing, and I feel like I have a hotel room in the middle of nowhere.

I come from a backpacking background, so just not hauling my world on my back and sleeping on the ground is an enormous step up.

My TT is a creature comfort. I am no longer sleeping on the ground in a tent. I have a fridge, bathroom (yea !) , hot and cold running water, a small TV for rainy days, storage, a furnace for cool nights, and I installed 2-6 volt golf cart batteries so that I don't need to plug in on my weekend camping trips.

But,,, on hot days I can find a place to plug in and then I have Air Conditioning too. Heck, my parents didn't get AC in the house I grew up in until I was 13.

Through the RVs I've had, I never really appreciated each successive creature comfort till I had it. My original casita had a very loud heater, tiny fresh water tank, and a manual light fridge and I love it. I didn't miss not having a DSI fridge or quiet ducted heater. It's only when I upgraded (Now in a Lance 1880) that I appreciated having the luxuries. I can only imagine what the folks in luxury campers have.

I think I use my RV more like a camper than an RVer so for me it's having a bed, bathroom, and hot water. ๐Ÿ™‚

No trip will be much fun if you are not eating well. Set up your kitchen with quality cookware, storage containers, utensils etc.. Plan delicious, reasonably simple meals {to prepare and clean up}, and save yourself a fortune vs eating out.

If you are eating Dinty Moore or beans and wienies camping will get old real fast. A decent bottle of wine or your favorite cocktail is also a nice touch. Most RV's enable you to cook on the road much like you do at home.

Works for us!

In my younger days, my dad had a Harley 1200 and my mom rode with him. I had a Honda 750 and wasn't married yet (still in college). Our neighbors (husband and wife) had a Honda 1000. Together we would tour around together, mostly week-ends, going places, just for the drive.

Once we decided to travel form (North) of Indianapolis, IN to Cumberland Gap, TN via motorcycles. We did not have a tent. We used sleeping bags, lined up all 3 motorcycles into a U shape, and we threw a sheet of plastic (like a tarp) over the top of all 3 motorcycles and let it drape down the front. We put all our sleeping bags under the plastic in a row and that's where we slept. We did this several nights. We did it again for a trip from Central Indiana, up to Michigan, crossed over into Canada, drove around Lake Erie (on the Canada side), crossed back over at Niagara Falls, and then headed back home. Yes, we were still making this configuration for sleeping quarters ever night.

So you know??? after that experience, fast forward 40 years later ... absolutely EVERYTHING about my current Outback TT and Chevy diesel duly 3500 truck, long bed, crew cab, is a "creature comfort!"
