2006 Dodge 2500 Mega Cab
5.9 Cummins
150K miles

Just picked up this fine, clean truck and it has to last me a long time.

Would someone please give me the correct Fleetguard air, fuel and oil filter part numbers please?

Placed my order yesterday and late today got an email.... "on backorder".

Will cancel the order in the morning when they open again.

What about servicing the transmission, since I just bought it?


Get someone to do a complete fluid "EXCHANGE" and adjust the inner and outer bands. Or do it your self as it's not hard to do at all.

Was not disputing that! Cummins found out that a better filtration system was needed with the injectors being damaged due to needing smaller micron filtration.

I bought a used '05 Ram 3500 diesel 10 years ago. Had only 20K miles on it at purchase, but since I knew nothing of its history (except I noted there had at some point been a fifth wheel hitch in the bed) I had all lubricants changed, coolant, all filters, transmission fluid and filter, had the bands adjusted, load tested and replaced the OEM batteries. And in the process, the mechanic discovered the transmission tailshaft seal was leaking. $1300 for everything, but I figured it was cheap insurance.

Oh, I had paid an hour's labor at the same independent shop to have a mechanic go over the vehicle, drive it, and hooked it up to a computer to scan the ECM and look for any stored codes or problems.

Thanks for the clarification!

So for a couple bucks more I highly advise running the FleetGuard Stratapore LF16035.

Geno's Garage online and AMAZON are great places to buy also.

Bosch specified 2~3 micron but Dodge/Ram didn't want to spend the extra money on it.
They knew they didn't need to,, neither do I.


They didn't care because by the time the damage was done, they didn't have to pay for it.
The results of those using the poorer filters are well known in forums like the TDR where new guys are constantly asking about related failures. I've never heard of anyone suggesting that Bosch was wrong and the average life span of injectors have been proof.
That's why newer trucks with their longer warrantys finally have proper filtering.
Bosch knows better than anyone what the filtering and fuel requirements are for their very sophisticated components.


Most pickup trucks are worn out or wrecked long before BEST filter cost is offset by extra wear.

I use Baldwin for the Fuel, Oil and Coolant on my truck and the fuel filter is a 3 Micron BF7772 with a drain, doing away with the water in fuel light sensor.

MOPAR 5083285 OEM filter crosses to the Fleetguard 3972, which is the non StrataPore filter and a lesser filter vs the StrataPore LF16035. Mopar does not offer a StrataPore filter painted grey like the 3972. Most good truck shops with parts departments will stock Fleetguard filters along with your local Cummins dealer. Chris

For the 3rd gen trucks 5.9 the injectors would typically fail around 120k because the filtration was not small enough. The smaller micron is better for sure.


x2. A friend of mine just had 2 failed injectors on his 07 5.9L; I told him years ago to add more fuel filtration to his truck but he's not the greatest at maintenance.......:S
