Had to take my 2014 2500HD in today, engine light.. Onstar said emissions but not critical IE you can drive it. Dealer now says DEF tank issue and a sensor. $900 for the sensor, it is out of warranty, but DEF tank issue covered. Not a happy camper LOL 37,700 on the truck 2 months out of the 5 year 50K. Seems I have read about DEF Emissions issues before. Anyone else?

If you haven't already done so, register your vehicle in the ownership center of either the Chevrolet or GMC website (whichever applies to the vehicle you own). You will need your VIN to set up your account with the "GM mothership". Once you do this there is a warranties tab which will show all existing vehicle warranties including any additional or special warranty policies GM has created for your vehicle.

My first Duramax was a 2006, all the power and no DEF stuff.. Wish I had kept it.

I just traded my 2007 LBZ Dually with 300K on it.
It was a great truck but my new 2019 3500 duramax dually is superior. It just has all the improved features of a modern diesel.

I like everything about it except the cost!

I love my '05 Duramax. I know it won't last forever but I do think I have to get one with DEF those parts will come up missing.
I sure hope the industry finds another way and moves away from DEF.

I had a def issue and deleted. I'm not dumping money into emissions out of warranty. might as well burn $100 bills.

well, gm did an extended warranty on parts of the DEF system including the heaters for something like 10 years or more and IIRC more than 100K miles.

I got a letter from GM a year or so ago on mine outlining the extended warranty coverage, what the dealer is to cover and how to get reimbursed if dealer didn't cover it or you had another service do the repair.

Later I did have the heater go on mine, dealer was upfront at the start that it would be covered under a GM extended warranty. They didn't try to pull any fast ones.

I had my truck in 3 times for DEF related issues. First time was the pump, second time it was the tank, third time was a wiring harness. Warranty paid for the first two and stupid a$$ mice chewing cost me the last one:M. Other than that it's been a good truck (95k currently) and I still wouldn't hesitate to buy another diesel.

My def heater went out. Said GMC had extended the warranty on the def system to 10 years or 100,000 miles. Replaced alll at no cost to me. Also they found a nitros oxide sensor bad right before catalytic converter going bad replace it to at no cost

Haven't heard from Chevy yet, I did read the warranty booklet, it is rather confusing as it does not specifically name all of the parts. 3/36K, 5/50K, 7/80K depending on what the issue is. I'm sure it was written by a lawyer to confuse the average owner. I will have to wait until it is repaired to get the exact part that was replaced.

DEF systems are really new technology, and from what I hear, all the manufacturers are having issues with them. BMW just extended the warranty on the DEF tanks on my 2012 X5 35d to 120,000 miles, which was a good thing for me, as my DEF tank and sensors went south at 106,000 miles. It usually takes several years for the engineers to iron all the bugs out of any new technology.

Usually emission components are warranted a bit longer. Even if out of warrantee, a lot of times they will cover the repair if it is just out of the warrantee period.

X2.
Did out your paper work. Should be a seperate note on emissions warranty.

I have a 15 Duramax dually 3500 with 48K miles. The engine light came on last week. Took it to the dealer and the DEF tank sensor was bad. Replacing under warranty. The Service dude said it was a nation wide recall for the same thing. Call GM and appeal the charge.

The only extended warranty I've ever bought was on my new Chevy 2500HD. After all the negotiations, it was around $1700. One significant emissions related problem and the warranty pays for itself.
