I am looking at a new f150 crew cab 4x4 and it looks like the best payload I can get with those options is just under 1500 pounds. Am I reading the towing guide incorrectly? I know I can get up to 2500 with a regar cab 4x2.

Here is a website that will answer all your questions of f150, 250-450 pickups. https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas/topics/2013/specs.html

Good luck.

My 2013 4x4 Crew Cab with EcoBoost and MaxTow has a payload sticker of 1850. I believe the HD payload package adds another 400 pounds, bringing it to 2250.

The Screw with 6.5 bed has the thicker frame material as the HD Scab 8' bed. Also the HD has the 4800 RAWR, so if the part #'s are the same then the Screw Maxtow with 6.5 bed should have the 4800 RAWR. Doubt it does as the axles would be different to accommodate the 7 lug wheels. IIRC there are different bushings and what not as well on the HD.

All good points. looking at Fords fleet builders specs shows:
... The HD package has the 4800 RAWR 9.75" rear axle.
... The MAX package has the 4050 RAWR 8.8" rear axle.

... 1.33" dia axles with 34 spline for the 9.75" axle in the HD.
... 1.29" dia axles with 31 splines in the 8.8" axle in the MAX.

The 7 lug HD wheels are 2400 lbs rated vs 2025-2100 lbs for the others.

The 8200 GVCWR HD package is set up to carry more weight but tow ratings are similar to the MAX tow.

As far as I know, all the F150s have the 9.75" rear now, even the base models, although the HD payload may be slightly different. I can see why the eco might need it. The torque and low ratio of 1st gear puts a hurtin' on the driveline.

Most of the standard 4x4 crew trucks are around 1500 lb, the max tows are 1800 while the HD payload are 2200+. I have not driven a max tow but the HD payload package is a huge jump in stability. It's not even comparable. Mine has 2171 on the sticker, crew 4x4 with HD payload and max tow.
Would you happen to know what the actual difference is between the max tow pkg and HD pkg besides the 7 lug wheels?? I was talking to someone on another website about this and he told me that he climbed under both trucks, got all the part #'s and insists that a Max tow Screw with a 6.5' bed has the same exact parts under it as the HD pkg except the 7 lug wheels. I find that very hard to believe once you see the difference in payload #'s. It has to either have bigger axles or stronger leaf springs or something?

Well, what I can actually see/confirm is an extra leaf in the rear and stiffer coils in front. Obviously the load range E tires and 7 lug wheels. Someone on the F150 forum claimed to work at the axle manufacturer and said the axle housing tubes are thicker wall than the standard 9.75" on the base trucks and that the axle shafts are heavier. Can't confirm it though. I guess a look through the part numbers of bearings could be an indicator although axles are often stepped down to various diameters so wouldn't tell you much except that they may share the same bearings.

It is a stiff riding SOB when empty but great when hooked up and seems like a nice ride for the 5th as well.
