first RV purchase

Hi I'm new here. I have been camping for the past few years and last year I borrowed my girlfriend's old pop-up a few times. Now I'm in the shopping for travel trailer and I have been looking at many campers online and my local dealer. Anyway, I narrowed down to one, at the rv dealer used 2006 jayco jayflight 27BHS (no slide) with three years warranty for $7,995 plus sale tax, brake controller, and equalizer hitch (up to $9,000 total). I think that's a good deal to me. Not looking for a brand new ones, just looking to spend less than $10,000 on travel trailer.

What do you guys think?

few owners selling their 2005 & 2006 jay flight 27BH but they are asking too much than $7,995. I think I will buy it from my local dealer for $7,995.
I talked to the dealer about warranty and she said it will cover everything top to bottom. I have not seen the warranty paper to sign. If they don't then the deal is off.
Thanks guys.

Be careful with a warranty. There might be a big deductible for every item you have a problem with and not just each time you bring it in for warranty work. Also is the warranty only honored at the one dealership?
Hopefully your '09 Silverado has 3.42 gears which should give you a better equipped TV also the 5.3L V8 will give you more towing capacity.
Good luck!

The one thing that no one has mentioned yet is mice. Make sure you look behind some of the panels to make sure there are no droppings. Another thing is to leave the trailer sealed up and then go in during a hot day. You'll smell it right away if there were mice in there.

Also check the age of the batteries if they are included. Get the dealer to replace them if they are old. If they won't move on the price, you can likely get them to throw in some supplies.

It's probably a nice trailer, and you may be able to negotiate them down some, I don't think the price is horrible, but thete are better deals to be found.

Check the value on NADA

Will they fix issues found during THEIR inspection? If you decide to buy it, nake them hook it up, then run the AC, Water Heater Fridge and furnace. The fridge takes a day or more to cool off. Make sure the fridge switches iver to gas when the electric is cut off. Light all burners on the stove and heat something up in the microwave. Open doors and doors to inspect for water stains. Bounce on the floor to ensure its not spongy.

Roll out the awning, inspect the pass-thru storage. Look at the manufacture date on the tires including the spare. Ask about wheel bearing maintenance.

After hooking it up test the panic switch on the brake controller and do multiple start stops in their parking lot.

Check operation of all lights - running lights too. Check the operation of all vent fans.

Good luck with it.

thanks guys. Yes I thought on about warranty on what it will cover. I will ask the dealer about warranty. I was told that if I purchase it they will do inspection and clean it up before I take it home. Yea its like $2,200 overpriced. I looked at same jayflight somewhere else and they are all same price at 7,995. Some are 8,995. Even 2004 jay flight is selling for $12,500... Crazy.
I will be towing with 2009 Silverado half ton.

Welcome to the forum!

Your FIRST thing you should be analyzing is what you have to tow it with and what length and weight your truck is CAPABLE to tow SAFELY.

THEN look at travel trailers that you CAN tow. That will narrow down your search substantially.

AND, more importantly do NOT listen to any RV salesman as to whether your truck can tow what they have to sell. Go by the specs on your truck NOT what anyone else tells you.

Happy Camping hope to see you down the road RV'ing soon. :C

What are towing with? That is as important as the trailer you choose

search google on trailers. i think this is overpriced too.

as for your brake controller and hitch, get them installed first!, then go ahead and get the trailer--separately.

as for the warranty, i doubt it covers much, really a none issue if everything is working. read the fine print if you do get a warranty. do you have to do $$$ for annual inspections? deductions? what exactly is covered/not covered????

Welcome to the forum!

That sounds pretty good! What does the three year warranty cover? I'd be looking at the cost of the insurance versus what it covers and how handy you are if you need to make any repairs. Before signing any papers, really take your time and do a complete examination of the trailer and look in every nook and cranny you can find. Run the AC and heat. Check the water heater. Look underneath. If the warranty covers all appliances and operating systems including labor and parts, that would make the deal very good.

Good luck, and I hope your enjoying a camper very soon!

I think that is overpriced for a 9 year old value priced travel trailer. My 9 year old TT is bigger, has new tires and in excellent shape and I value it at about $6k. I suspect the so called 3 year warranty that they dangled in front of you is going to cost you, oh, about $3k. Offer $6k and tell them to keep their worthless warranty. The hitch is worth $500.

Jayco is a good brand. Make sure they do a good PDI (pre-delivery inspection) so you know how everything works and make sure everything works as it should before you take delivery. And welcome to the forum.
